Where have all the ghosts gone

Saying for the Day: Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.
-------Good night except I woke at 5:00 again. My body doesn't seem to know the time has changed. Well first day with the new air purifier and I don't know if its doing any good or not. My oxygen level was down a little today but that may have been caused by the weather. Bishop Anderson called but I didn't know what to tell him.My sister Dawn called. She is going to California on the seventh. I put a box of empty cd cases on Freecycle and had a number of people who were interested until they found out I live in Crystal Falls. Well I did my fifty losing spins at I-lost.com. I don't even win the lowest prize($5.00). Betty went up to the church in the morning to help put out the newsletter. I worked at cleaning up the study. We couldn't move in it. When Betty came home she joined in and now things are much better. Betty went back to wrapping gifts. I cut a DVD of me getting my Dr's degree at LSTC. It was kind of fun to watch and brought back so many memories. We should have a reunion of that group. It is haloween so we had a bowl full of candy ready but only five ghosts showed up. I guess we aren't on the main trick or treat route. Now we have to eat all that candy. What a chore. Betty has gone to church for a bible study.Well I need a breathing treatment.

All Bishops aren't Bad

Saying for the day: 1 Timothy3: 2 -3 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
---------Hard night last night. Went to bed late because of the time change. Had a hard time getting to sleep. Woke up at 5:00 because my body thought it was 6:00. It doesnt' understand daylight saving time.Well I hope it adjusts. I don't want to work at sleeping every night. In the morning we picked up some things getting ready for Bishop Andersons visit. It isn't every day one gets to be visited by a Bishop even a retired bishop. Then I did my 50 losses on I-lost.com.One day I have to win something don't I? I checked my E-mail and discovered I had won a number of bids on E-Bay overnight. In case you think I was lucky I only wanted to win one. They were all for trestles and now I will be up to my neck in trestles. I am the only person I know who can lose by winning. In the afternoon Bishop Anderson came and we had a wonderful visit. We talked of old times and what we did different than those who followed us. I am really glad he came although I am not sure of the machine he brought. After he left I put some finishing touches on the church web page which I will upload tomorrow. I have given it a complete face lift. Well I need a breathing treatment.

Bad Luck Still

Saying for the day: My luck is so bad that if I bought a cemetery, people would stop dying.: Ed Furgol
--------Odd night last night. The strap on the breathing mask came off and the pressure tried to push it off my head. Of course I woke up. I did my 50 losing spins at I-lost .com. I don't think they really give any money but I like the slot machine. All the spins are free and I won ten free spins. How lucky can you get? Betty got up early so she could leave for an ELCW gathering in Iron Mountain. There she got to take communion from her sister's niece. The cluster ELCw is having problems and couldn't find anyone willing to be president. I am thankful Betty didn't volunter. While she was gone I continued with the VHS tapes and updated the church web site. Betty's sister sent us here itinerary for her Florida trip. It looks like fun. Bishop Anderson called. He read about my breathing problems on my blog and wants to bring me an air purifier to try. He is bringing it tomorrow. I tried to talk him out of it because I really don't think it can help me but he is stubborn. Betty and I went to Saturday night service. The sermon was okay. Then we went grocery shopping. Came home to discover I had lost the bid on a trestle set on E-bay.
Well its kind of a losing day. I hope the mask stays on tonight. I need a breathing treatment.

Ho Hum Ho Hum

Saying for the Day:Mum taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE:"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning!"
------Good night last night. Started the day with the ususal 50 losing spins at I-lost.com.Dawn called and I checked at unclaimedfunds.com for Chris's name and sure enough it was there. Dawn thinks it is an old bank account that Chris had with my mother. It had about $15 in it. The only one who could claim it would be Chris because only her name and Ma's are on the account. Well we'll never know for sure because it would cost $20 to find out. Checked my E-mail and found a bunch of bid not won from E-Bay. I bid on train cars when they are $.99 and they almost always go for at least $6.00 . Bidding gives me something to do. I finished recopying the VHS tape from the DVD that failed the other day. Then I copied the trip Betty,Pennie, and I took to Florida. Betty wrapped Christmas gifts and took the mail to the post office. Federal express brought another gift today. We need to get all the gifts wrapped and out of the back room so we can paint the wall. Betty got called and asked to help put the newletter together on Monday and of course she said yes. Betty spent some time washing Pennies because she wants some clean pennies for a Christmas gift. I told her go to the bank and see if they have a roll of new pennies.I called Trivent to see about taking some money out of my annuity. I can do it if I want to but if I don't take it all it will cost me $30. Betty wants to leave some so the church can use us as a Trivent member when they count heads for grants. For the most part the daywas ho hum or hum ho. I need a breathing treatment.

Shop till you sit down

Saying for the day:Those who live by the sword... get shot by those who don't.
------Fair night last night with a number of sleep interuptions. Started the morning with my usual 50 slot machine losses at I-lose.com. Checked out a website Dawn gave me on uncliamed money. My mother's name is there but I don't want to pay the fee for the information. I got the DVD recorder working and redid some of what I lost yesterday. Betty wrapped gifts. Nothing much came in the mail. Then we went to Iron River. I tried out my new walker. It works great. When I get tired I just sit down and that happens a lot. We bought some candy for haloween and some stuff for the Grabit machine which we will take to Pat's to play on Alex's birthday party. Then we went to the dollar store. Coming home we put the stuff in the Grabit machine and I played with it for a bit. I'm not very good at picking up things with the claw. Got an E-mail from Chris and she might be ready to play Canasta at the motel. Betty's sister is going to Florida for November. I bid on a bunch of train cars on E-Bay and lost every bid. Well I need a breathing treatment.

And some more Red Paint

Saying for the day:The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.
------Fairly good night. Started the day with 50 losing spins at I-won(which I have renamed on my bookmark as I-lost).Got reservations in Green Bay for Thanksgiving at the same motel as my sister Chris and George. On the 6th we will stay at Pennie's. I started cleaning up the study. Mail came with more of our Christmas shopping and some blank DVDs. Continued recording old VHS tapes to DVD. Betty got ready for Tops and went to Tops.In the afternoon we finished putting transfers on the railroad cars.Betty painted some. My DVD recorder malfunctioned and ruined three hours of work. Betty went back to wrapping Christmas gifts. My new walker came. It will work much better outside than the old one. Betty put it together. Betty was the big loser at Tops for the day and for the month. She won $5.00. (You see the only way we win is by losing)My new walker has wheels, handbrakes and a seat. I wonder if I could ride it down the main street hill? Well I need a breathing treatment.

Lucky ???????????

Saying for the Day:It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end to end, someone would be stupid enough to try and pass them.
--------Good night last night. Every morning while I wait for Betty to get up and give me my breathing treatment I go to I-won.com and play the slot machine. They give me 50 free spins. Every morning I win nothing. So you see why I don't go to casinos. I am one of those people who is not lucky in gambling. When I buy a lottery ticket, which is not often, I never get more than one number. On the other hand I have a wonderful wife, three wonderful children, and fantastic grandchildren, I have survived three near death experiences, and I am not broke. I may be the luckiest person around.
In the morning I continued transfering old VHS to DVD . Betty painted the train car again. Betty hauled stuff from living room to basement. I made reservations in Madison for the 4 and 5 th of November. I tried to get a reservation in Green Bay for the 6th but there isn't a motel available in 30 miles because of a Packer game.It looks like we either stay at Peter's or at the one motel in Appelton. I think it will be Appelton. Betty continued to work on the railroad cars and I made new transfers. The two cars that we have done look pretty good.

Nostelgia is an old sort of thing.

Saying for the Day:Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
-----Good night last night. In the morning we ordered some outside holiday decorations. Got an E-mail from Pat and he has to work on Thanksgiving . That was a disapointment since we had hoped to see him and the boys. Droped him a note asking what weekends he would have the boys and then checked out some motels in the Madison area. Then Betty and I worked on the train cars. Our first attempts didn't work so we are trying something new. I transfered and old Forest Park Band Concert from VHS to DVD. Betty went back to wrapping gifts.Mail brought nine new catalogues including one from a company that promised not to send us anymore if we didn't order . We didn't but they must have forgiven us. We get catalogues like spam on E-mail. We also got some more of the Christmas gifts we ordered. In the afternoon I transfered some old video tapes to DVD. They had old home movies that I had transfered from Movie film to VHS. There was my Grandfather John, Grandma Mabel, My mother and Father, Chris at various ages. Movies of my time on the ore boats, our wedding, our kids when they were little, A Forest Park Band concert. It was like visiting my past. Betty ended up watching as well and got to see her mom and dad. her niece and nephew, our first apartment in Chicago. What a trip. Of course for the two hours nothing else got done. When that finished I made some new transfers for the train. Betty got ready and went to a Board meeting at the church. Well I need a breathing treatment though I won't get one till Betty gets home.

Shorter and Shorter

Saying for the day:TIT 3:5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
------Very good night last night. Have you noticed that these blogs are getting shorter and shorter. That maybe because life has been even duller than usual and there is nothing to report or because I have run out of words to describe the fantastic exciting thimgs that happen here every day. (You decide which one but I just made this blog longer. ) In the morning I transfered three old scrooge movies from VHS to DVD. Betty put the second coat of paint on the train cars. Then she washed clothes. I looked for a new website for the family web page as we have filled the present one to the very edge. I ordered a new walker. Betty wrapped gifts. Then Betty and I started putting transfers on the railroad cars while watching, sort of, Luther. We are not happy with how they are turning out so we will try something different tomorrow. I answered E-mails from Pat and Chris. Well I need a breathing treatment.

-------Good night last night. In the morning I continued to transfer old video tapes to DVD including an old version of scrooge. Betty painted the Christmas train cars. I worked on the transfers. It is all slowly coming together. We went to Saturday night service. There were three baptisms (WOW). I told the young man who got baptised that he was lucky becuae he was old enough to remember his baptism. Betty served cake and coffee. I came home and worked at adding the latest Lanyon to our family web page. I have now reached the limit of what the server will allow us. Well I need a breathing treatment.

Saying for the day: The road to heaven was made possible by God's grant of his Son.
-------Good night last night. I feel better today at least part of the time. My stomach is still acting up. In the morning the washer quit working and we had to call a repairman. He came soon after the call and told us we need a new switch. Of course it has to be ordered. He made a temporary repair so Betty can use the washer until the switch comes. I updated the church web page with picnic pictures and Sunday's bulletin. Betty wrapped some more gifts. I continued to transfer old vhs tapes to DVD.In the afternoon we returned the broken DVD player to the store and got a new one in its place. Of course we shopped a litttle while we were there. The drive over and back would have been beautiful if the sun had been shining but it wasn't. We went grocery shopping when we got back to Crystal. Betty unloaded the grocerys and I checked the E-mail. I bid on a railroad car on E-bay and was within 18 seconds of winning when I got outbid. I didn't really need it anyway. Well I do need a breathing treatment.

I called the church to tell the office that the church picnic pictures were now on their computer. My lionel cars came. I washed the cars for the Christmas train. When Betty came home she went back to wrapping gifts but she doesn't feel very good.Apria came and checked the C-pap machine. Bettsy stopped by and left pictures of the church picnic.Betty went to Tops. I scanned in the pictures and uploaded them to the church computer for a future bulletin.I'll call the church tomorrow and tell them the pictures are there. When Betty came home we continued work on the train room. Then Betty wrapped gifts so that we can get them out of the room. I transfered two old video tapes to a DVD as we intend to get rid of all of our video tapes. Just another dull day at the Linna's house. We ordered gifts for a friend of Betty's, our daughter, Betty's sister and husband, and Lori. We are just about through. Then we went back to cleaning the train room so Betty can paint the wall. She hates the pink color it is now.It even has a pink ceiling. WE seperated the Ho stuff from the N scale stuff and she took the N scale stuff downstairs. In the afternoon I went to see the doctor and got a clean bill of health. Well he didn't say I was healthy just that I was no sicker than I was three months ago. After the doctor we went to Florence and bought a lottery ticket. The odds are only 3 million to one aginst us. Then we went to Walmart in Iron Mountain. Betty got things for the kids box at the church and some blue paint for the room. I got some ink cartriges and a gift for Luke. They said they would take back my shorted out DVD player. ------Good night last night. Got off to a slow start this morning. By the time the breathing treatment was done and we were dressed and ready to go it was 10:00. Betty brought stuff from the living room to the basement. I took new pictures of the O27 layout from a different angle. I will add them to the website tomorrow. Then Betty and I went to the church so I could arrange to get some baptismal pictures. We talked about cake cutting or cutting out cakes. I told the office if they need a cake send me the bill. Then we went and I had blood drawn so my doctor will have information when I have my check up tomorrow. When we got home Dawn called and offered to take us to lunch. When she arrived I copied some pictures for her and reduced them in size. Then we went to Fob's . WHile we were talking we discovered that she thought Chris was going there for Thanksgiving and we thought she was coming to Green Bay. When we came home we started cleaning the back room where the HO train layourt will go. It will be an all week job. Betty went to a Bible study. Saying for the Day:Abraham Lincoln:To ease another's heartache is to forget one's own.
-----Horrible night last night. Everything ached. I got up at 3:00 and took a hot bath and that helped me to sleep until just after six. WE moved fast this morning to get everything ready for the trip. I drove to Rhinelander and Betty watched "Left Behind" on the DVD player. Once we got to Rhinelander we drove right buy the motel where the train show was and proceded to get lost. We get lost everywhere. We stopped for directions at the CITGO station and that's when we discovered we had driven past the Motel. We registered and saw the first layout in N scale. Betty bought a raffle ticket on the layout. We won a doorprize which consisted of a HO boxcar. We saw a great G scale indoor layout. The owner had three very expensive engines and his wife had a picture book of their garden layout. Across from this was a double layout of old American Flyer three track trains including one in standard gauge. It was awesome. We took in two workshops. One on making trees and one on Command control of the trains. Then we went to the logging musuem and saw a huge HO layout that must have taken thousands of hours of work. To get to it you had to go down a horrible number of stairs. Later we found out there was a ramp I could have used. Well the exercise might have been good for me. Betty drove home and I watched and old Shirley Temple movie. It had a happy ending. Betty said the autumn colors were beautiful. Arriving home we took some pictures of our O27 layout and we will soon add them to our web page which in case you have forgotten is at www.familylinna.com . Well I need a breathing treatment.

Saying for the day:Winston Churchill: I am always willing to learn, however I do not always like to be taught.
-------Good night last night. In the morning I cleaned track. Betty went to the basement and brought up some plaster rolls for the layout. I went and changed the mouse on the computer. Bam, wow, bam, wow. My computer hasn't acted up since I changed the mouse. It may very well have been a mouse problem. I keep expecting it to go wild but it hasn't. After lunch I cleaned track. Betty started plastering the layout so you can't see the place where the top board is nailed on. She also cut a plastic road for the top. I helped where I could. With the plaster in place she started putting the houses back. We put in the wiring for the tobagan slide and the skating rink, and lights for three houses. It looks pretty sharp. Getting the houses to light was a bit of an adventure. When we ran the train it hit the edge of the tunnel so we had to move the platform back an inch. Then I cleaned track. I am using a dremel and the battery keeps needing to be recharged so it will be tomorrow befor i finish the track. Betty got ready to go to ELCW. They are watching the Luther movie tonight. I worked on the train home page. I soon will do a complete revision. Pat sent and E-mail and Lori put a note on the blog. Betty wants Pat to know that she forgot but she will take care of it. It is good to know the machine warns you when this happens. In the morning I cleaned old track , there is a ton of it and I only scratched the surface. Betty took a bath and got ready to go to Tops. After she left I went out in the garage and looked for things to use on the o27 layout. Then I did some picture pages for Betty. I still don't have the laptop on line so I hope this computer lets me finish this blog. Betty came home long enough to join me in ordering the last of the Christmas gifts. Then she went to the Church to learn how to use their DVD player. I got two annoying telephone calls from people who wanted to sell me things. I annoyed them back. My sister called and we had a nice converstaion. I put a new keyboard on the computer but it didn't help. Betty cleaned up some of the boxes in the living room, the one's her houses were stored in. We came home, unloaded the mail and the boards and then went to Fob's for lunch. After lunch we went to the grocery store as there was nothing left to eat at the house. Betty unpacked the car while I went through the mail. We had a ton of catalogues. I got some things I bid for on E-bay including lots of straight track. Then we went to the garage and built a shelf for the houses on the train table. We got to use my new electric nailer. Betty used her Zip saw to cut tunnel holes in the shelf and then painted it white. We went back to the mail while it dried. I got a nice letter from a former parishoner telling me how much I was appreciated. We brought in the shelf and adjusted it. we decided we needed a new tunnel so I bid for one on E-Bay. Betty went and got the packages from the lady that picked them up and held them for us when we were gone. My new laptop is here but I haven't figured out how to connect it to the web yet so I am still stuck on the old one. We got a package of sitting people I ordered in August so they go on the shelf till next spring. Betty and I put the "snow" on the train table. Then we had lunch. We discovered we had to seperate the track from the snow so we cut thin foam board which took quite awhile. Then Betty hauled up her porcelin houses from the basement. She also brought up a tobagan slide which is really cute. She has too many houses for the table and she isn't sure that they are all up. Tomorrow we will arrange them and see how they will look. She also brought up a musical manger scene but it didn't fit so we put it on a table in the corner. Then I upgraded the Church web page and Betty got ready to go to Bible study. We finally ended up at the mall with Country Kitchen and we had lunch there. My grandson ate very well with no conflict. When we left Betty drove and we came back to the house. Betty helped Luke clean his room and I managed to get the password for United Lutheran's web page. It turned out I had the right password all along but was doing something else wrong. I am slowly rebuilding my address base for my e-mail. Bree came home from school and worked on her home work. Well I need a breathing treatment.

Saying for the Day:Some people not only expect opportunity to knock, they expect it to beat down the door.
-----Good night last night , sort of. In the morning we took Luke to Pre-school and then went shopping. As`usual we spent far too much. Picked up Luke`and he argued that we should go to Perkins for Pizza. I didn't think Perkins had Pizza but they had a child size pizza and Luke was right. I hate losing an argument to a four year old. In the afternoon we came back to the house and I checked my E-mail. Aunt Pennie`came and we went to super at I-hop.My new DVD player quit working. It plays sound but no picture. Now` I have to find the recipt and take it back. Went to send this message` to Blogger but it was`down. Well I need a breathing treatment

Tuesdsay October 4

Saying for theDay:If you wish to live wisely, ignore sayings including this one.
------Had a rough night last night I took my lasix with super, big mistake. In the morning got Bree off to school, and then drove off to be sure we can get to Luke's school tomorrow. Then we went shopping at Top Lotts and New Hobby. It started to rain so hard that we came back to the house. We left the dog in. I spent the afternoon on the computer. At super we had a confrontation with Luke over eating. He can be one stuborn kid. I think it came out a draw. Our rule is simple , if he takes it he eats it. We don't make him eat anything he doesn't choose. Oh well his parents return Saturday. I might survive. Well I need a breathing treatment.

Saying for the`Day:Almost doesn't count except in horseshoes. Packer Fan
--------Well I didn't expect to blog from Green Bay but Peter has set me up on his computer. Monday morning we packed and got everything ready for the trip. We had to take breathing treatment machine, night breathing machine, oxygen tanks, blow up bed and of course our suitcases. We`finally left around 11:00 and `we had breakfast/lunch at the Great Northern Steak House. We`got to Green Bay around 2:30 and were greated by our grandson Luke. When Peter and Bree came home they took us for a ride to show us the route to Luke's pre-school as we need to take him on Wednesday and Friday. Then we went and ate at Country Buffet. Then we set up the blow up bed and all of my breathing equipment. I went to bed and Betty and Peter watched the Packers lose. Well I need a breathing treatment.

Sunday October 2

Saying for the day: GAL 3:27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
----- It seems funny to do this blog without Pigeon Falls but life goes on. I had a good night last night. The whole family went to Fob's for breakfast. Peter moved tables and finished the bathroom shelf when we came back. I worked on the computer. We reformated the hard disk , and reinstalled windows. I lost all my e-mail and my address book so if your reading this send me an e-mail so I can start a new book. After all that the problem remained. We think now it is some kind of conflict betwen the two printers we have on the USB ports. Pulling them both out seemed to solve the problem. I put them back and after a little the problem returned. I hope that is the problem because then I can just take one printer off line. In the afternoon we set up a train table in the living room for the Marx trains. After a little effort we ran all the trains I got off the net and all of my old ones except one. The fanciest would not run. We picked an engine and added cars to it and it looked pretty nice. Then we added the tunnel Betty bought. We are going to put her Christmas houses on the table as well and it should look nice when it is complete. Peter and kids left around 3:00 and we miss them already. Betty put the car in the garage for the first time since late spring as the train table in the garage was taken down. I now have the task of relaoding needed programs to the computer. There will be no blogs this week as Betty and I will be in Green Bay. By the way you can now comment directly on the blog without having a blog of your own. I need a breathing treatment.

Saturday October 1

Saying for the day:A theorist is a feller that dosen't work, but who has a lot of ideas that he thinks will.
---- Those of you who have read my blog from the start know that Pigeon Falls is a magical, mystical town that exists in my backyard. In the spring a fog descends and when it lifts there is Pigeon Falls. In the Fall a fog descends and when it lifts Pigeon Falls has disapeared. Today the fog came and Pigeon Falls has disapeared. There will therefore be no more Pigeon Falls stories until next Speing when the fog returns. The houses and people that made up Pigeon Falls now line the shelves of my garage. I will miss the town.
----- Good night last night. I spent the morning getting ready for Peter and family to come. Betty's train tunnel arrived as well as some more Christmas gifts. Peter and kids arrived and we went to lunch at Fob's. Then we began dismantaling the garden railroad layout. Bree and Luke carried in buildings and cars. Peter brought in the big and heavy stuff. Then we pulled up the main street which we will put down differently next year. First we will level the ground so it doesn't tilt. Peter then pulled the big lake shell and cleaned it out. We will use it to cover the little lake for the winter. Poor Peter when he finished doing that got to put together some bathroom shelving and then move furniture. I tried to fix my computer by using HP's system but it didn't work. We had such trouble that I couldn't put this blog out last night but had to wait for Peter to get it to the point where I could blog. Bree loved her costume and Luke can't wait to wear the costume Dawn left for him. The problem with the computer continues. There will be no blogs this coming week as Betty and I will be in Green Bay. Well its morning and I need a breathing treatment.
