@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town dreams one dream.-Maxine Quilldancer our third and fourth grade teacher ( she used to teach first and second) had her students write out their observations on the town of “ The Dream”. These are some of their responses:
1. You could get a splinter sitting on the sidewalk because they are made of wood.
2. It’s a fun place where you get to throw bad food at knotty people.
3. All the birds have gone on vacation.
4. No pigeon poop.
5. I waited for the cowboys but they didn’t come.
6. Nobody has to go to school there. There is no school.
7. You have to walk as there are no cars or even motorcycles.
8. In the dream I have only homemade wooden toys. But they were fun.
9. There is no electricity. Candles don’t give much light.
10. There were no video games but we didn’t know that.
11. There were real sword fights when Eino wasn’t looking.
12. My mother burned all our food and said it was the stove’s fault.
13. Everybody needed a cat because there were lots of mice.
14. My uncle Harry lived with us and he never shaves and smells funny.
15. There was no television. People told stories of the old days.
16. You didn’t have to take a bath.
17. There were no big stores just little shops.
Maxine thought the students did a pretty good job.

Going to Church

Saying for the day- Sometime the soul needs refreshing.

When I was in the active ministry and would visit people would give me all kinds of excuses for not going to church. What most of them boiles down to were that they didn’t need the church to worship God.
They were right. You don’t.
But I need the church . I need the church to feed my spirit. I need the church to help me grow. I need the church to remind me that I’m a sinner. I need the church to help shape the vision of what god wants me to do. I really do need the church.
I say this because for two weeks I have been unable to worship in church because I was sick. I prayed at home. I read the bible. But I missed being surrounded by people filled with the Holy Spirit. I missed singing Jesus Loves Me. I missed the reading of the Word. I missed the good news of Christ brought buy the Pastor. I thirsted for what only the church could give me. Others can do without the church but I can’t.
So today I return. I am so excited.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town dreams one dream.-On Saturday the town had that dream again. Now they are trying to understand.
Some were not happy with the role the dream gave them to play. Eino says he never wanted to be the law officer. But there he was hauling people off to the stocks.
Nancy found herself running the Blue Garter Inn. There was no bar but people drank in the common room. There was no coffee and the girls working for her were dressed like bar maids of long ago. She had Jack to handle the patrons if they got rowdy.
Tommy UK was just a kid but he opened the fence so Mrs. Maki’s dog could get to the sheet on the line. Even in dreams he’s into some kind of trouble. You can bet that if the dream continues he’ll end up in the stocks.
All day Saturday people were stopping at Nancy’s and sharing what happened in their part of the dream.
Pastor Moe found it interesting that he was the Catholic priest, the Priest was the Bishop, and the Methodist Pastor was a Healing Monk.
Somebody remarked on the fact that there were no birds in the dream. Not even a single pigeon or sparrow. Not one bird flew in those skies. Perhaps, the dragon ate them.
One of the farmers remarked that he was farming but he didn’t know what the crop was that he was growing except it wasn’t potatoes. The deer were a bother in the dream as well but you weren’t permitted to kill them. They belonged to the King. They had to intention of ending up in the stocks. With any luck they could get the King’s archer to come and clear the field for them.
People are not sure what to make of the whole thing. Tommy UK said its like a good movie with no $5.00 ticket price. They need to just lay back and enjoy.
Will they dream again? Will Tommy UK get into trouble in the dream? Is there even an undertaker in this dream town? Will Pastor Moe rise to the level of Bishop ? Will the priest become Pope? Will our Methodist Monk be burned at the stake for trying to reform the church ?

Another good day. Betty and I went to church. It was a wonderful service. There was baptism and a hymn sing. It really lifted the spirit. We came home and my son Patrick grilled for lunch. He does a good job. While Betty , Pennie, Alex and I played canasta the boys played with the dog, Patrick cut the grass, and Curtis worked on getting our television set up. Alex and I won. Late in the afternoon, Pat, the boys, and Curtis went back to Madison. I did some work at catching up some loose ends from the dragon story contest caused by the fact that I have almost terminal procrastination. ( To go slower I'd have to be dead). Now I need a breathing treatment.

644

Saying for the day: Some numbers are worth more than they add up to.

644 that was the telephone number of the drug store. Not just any drug store but our drug store. Linna’s Drug was run by my maiden Aunt Ida, my Uncle Harold, and my Aunt Viola. My dad was also listed as a pharmacist on the store licensee though he seldom worked there.
The phone the number belonged to was black ( weren’t they all back then?)and sat in the far rear left corner on a glass counter. That was the only phone.
There were no control panels under the main counter so you could be directed top the phone in the pharmacy or the phone at the candy counter. There was no phone in the pharmacy or at the candy counter. This was it.
In fact old 644 was the only phone in the building. The family lived upstairs but decided not to have a phone up their. You couldn’t get them in the middle of the night. If a call came for somebody who was upstairs there was a buzzer and you could “ buzz them down”.
If I called 644 to talk to my parents to find out what to do with a foster baby that wouldn’t stop crying my Aunt Ida would say they were playing canasta wait until they come home.
Sometimes during the holiday when I filled in at the store as a clerk the phone would ring and I would answer it and it would be a Doctor. Not a secretary but a real doctor. I would say in a hushed tone “ It’s a doctor”. One of life’s special moments.
I have forgotten almost every phone number I have ever had and keep forgetting the one I have now but 644 will always stay with me.It was a special phone in a special time.

@@@@News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and people dream a common dream.– At two this morning the entire town of Pigeon Falls entered again into a common dream. Again each person was themselves in the dream.
It was an ordinary day in Oiseaux Morts :
The King’s Constable (Ein) had to stop a sword fight between two men who had a bit too much to drink. You could see they had been soldiers because they used their swords in the classical style. The first used the traditional “cat’ s tail swinging” as his opening move and the other countered with “little dog kicks dirt“ Then they both did a couple of”deer jumps over the fence“ .That’s when Eino did the classical “ hit em in the head with a stick” and wapped each of them with his walking stick. He then hauled them off to the stocks at the center of town.
As he was draging them he was passed by a hand made white sheet being pulled by Mrs. Maki’s dog. The kids just loved that. Mrs. Maki will have to find some way to keep that dog penned up when she washes.
He put our two drunks in the stocks next to the Anderson who were there because they had become a “ public nuisance”. Mrs. Anderson threw something and hit a neighbor and she screamed for Eino.
On the other side of the Ansersons are two farmers who got caught poaching the King’s deer. They’ll be in the stocks for a bit.
Down on the end of the street at the big Catholic Church Father Moe is finishing another dull sermon for Sunday Mass.
Just an ordinary day at Oiseaux Morts .
Every once in a while the dragon flys up and down the main street and all is well with the world.

I had a wonderful day. From 9-12:00 I went to the train show. My soon rented me a scooter type thing to sit on and drive around it was great. The Train Show was better than last year . There were so many active layouts. My grandsons loved them. They would come running and tell me what they saw. I bought a street car. In the afternoon we went to Paete's house and Betty, Pennie, Lori, and I played canasta. Aside from the interuptions it was a good game. Betty and I won. I didn't come anywhere near a computer all day. Now I need a breathing treatment.

Book Number Twelve

Saying for the Day: Its hard to write when your sick.

When I was really sick and spent a lot of time in bed I couldn’t do much except read. I have finished eleven books of the twelve in the Wheel of Time series. All that is left is book twelve.
Therein lies the problem. It has not yet been written.
There is lots that needs to be done in book twelve.
We have two hero’s who must be reunited with the main hero.
We have the main hero who now has only one hand.
We have a group of evil men with power that must be dealt with.
We have a broken Tower that must be healed and reunited.
We have a heroine who may be dead but if not only one of the lesser hero’s can save her.
We have a Queen who has just won her crown.
WE have the final battle that will either save or destroy the world.
That’s a lot for the last book. But the author Robert Jordan can do it and do it well.
That’s the problem. Jordan is very sick and may be dying. He is in no shape to write. If he dies without finishing the book his universe will end without being complete.
I am sure his wife will finish the book. But it won’t be his. It will be his and hers. It will be different. One will always wonder how it would have ended if only he had lived.
Perhaps he’ll finish.
I hope so.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town dreams one dream-It is Friday morning in Pigeon Falls and people are uneasy. There is a fear that this Saturday “ the Dream” will return. There is no reason to believe it. But a lot of people just wonder if it will. Who can control dreams? They come and they go. Will Saturday take the whole town away again?
If “ the Dream” comes again will they be in the same place or will the dream take them somewhere else?
Well, no use worrying about as yet undreamed dreams.
Things are pretty normal in Pigeon Falls.
There was fight down at the Fly Inn. Two drunks trying to knock each other down and ending up holding each other up.
Annie Maki’s dog pulled her laundry off the line again. She either needs to get a dryer or a new dog.
The Andersons got into a screaming throwing match again . Ended up breaking the vase he gave her for Christmas. She either needs a new plastic vase or a new husband.
The potato fields are being plowed. Farmers have shot and buried a few deer the DNR will never hear of. But those deer won’t be ruining crops this year.
Pastor Moe is working on his sermon for Sunday. Just a little more work and it will be long enough and dull enough .
Just your ordinary day.

The Umbrella Church

Saying for the day- Why can't they get along? They all believe in God.

What is an umbrella Church?
To answer that question I am going to create a pretend umbrella Church so as to avoid offending any of those who belong to the great American umbrella churches ( Some will be offended anyway)
Our umbrella Church began as the Golden Chair Church or the GCC but by the time it had become a great umbrella church it merged with a number of other churches. It merged with the Golden Free Chair Churches, the Finnish Golden Chair Synod, the Evangelical Golden Chairs of America , and the Association of Free Golden Chairs. Forming the Evangelical Golden Chair Church of America or the EGCCA.
All the members believe in the Golden Chair.
But they don’t believe the same things.
Here are some of the beliefs.
1. The chair was first directed to be placed in every congregation by a Finnish Bishop to remind people of the sovereignty of God.
2. The original Golden Chair came from god without scratch, blemish, ort imperfection.
3. God placed the Golden Chair in the stable for Mary to sit on while she held the baby Jesus.
4.Some believe a secret society has kept the chair hidden and will reveal it when Jesus returns.
5.No community worship of any kind is acceptable to God unless the chair is in the middle of it.
6. Only ordained Pastor’s may sit upon the chair.
7. Only Bishops may sit upon the chair.
8. The chair must be made to exact dimensions and covered with gold gilt.
9. The chair is only a symbol but not essential to anything.
10. Some had an experience where one saw oneself carried into the throne room of God on the golden chair. Those with the experience called themselves “ The Ushered In”. Some believed that only the “Ushered In” would go to heaven.
11.The chair was to remind people that the poor needed to be treated like the rich.
12. A gay person may not sit upon the chair.
13. It was time for a gay person to sit upon the chair.
14. There was no God but the golden chair still had the power to remind us to love one another.
Of course there were other things that people believed about the chair as well but this gives you some idea of the diversity of belief.
Members kept trying to reform the EGCCA.
There was the Basic Chair movement. It held that seven of the beliefs were essential and you couldn’t belong unless you held them. There title became a term of derision as in “O! Your one of those Basics”
Some of the “Ushered In” tried to make that a condition of membership.
One group wanted the EGCCA to embrace the future and dump the silly beliefs of the past. What was important was that they cared for the poor.
Groups formed within the EGCCA. There was the Chair Alone group that wanted to go back to a simpler time. The Servant Church Group that wanted to put all the resources of the Church into serving.
Every time one of these movements or groups were perceived to threaten some
Group within the church the cry would go up, “We too have a right and a reason to exist within the church. This is our church, as much as those who would exclude us. We are not going to leave it, we are not going to tolerate being intimidated or demeaned by our fellow Golden Chairs, who do not agree with our interpretation and understanding of the faith.
The world looked on and asked “Why can’t they get along? They all believe in the Chair”.
They all believe in the Golden Chair.
@@@@ News From Pigeon Falls –the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town dreams one dream-Since Saturday everybody has been talking about “The Dream”. They still find it hard to believe that they shared one great dream like a movie. They do remember that the dragon was a hero.
Mrs. Trumble says that it was demon induced dream. It was caused by dark and evil forces.
Eino , who was the General of the town forces in the dream says he doesn’t understand it.
Tommy UK says it was fun and he hopes it happens again.
Nancy says people really like the part where the bug things went down in flames. They were so scared until then. “The Dream” has sold a lot of coffee.
Some people are afraid to go to sleep at night.”The Dream” , however, has not returned. People are back to your ordinary, run of the mill, nightmares. You know like falling down stairs, or being chased by terrible things that want to eat you.
Petrovich has gone back to his books looking for a dribblet about group dreams.
The dragon, our hero, hasn’t been seen since the dream.

But we had to wait until the refrigerator repairman came. Then he called and canceled. We went to the clinic or whatever they call it. I had the blood drawn but then was told I had to wait until the Dr. saw the results. So we sat and sat and sat and sat. HE gave me a prescription for Potassium pills and an appointment for next week. Fast Forward from Ralph 12

Saying for the day: In an emergency nothing beats logic.

My good friend Ralph who just got out of the hospital forwarded this to me and I share it with you.
There were two nuns..
One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM) ,
and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL) .

It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.

SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for
The past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants.

SL: It's logical. He wants to rape us.

SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes
at the most! What can we do?

SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster.

SM: It's not working.

SL: Of course it's not working. The man did the only
logical thing. He started to walk faster, too.

SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute.

SL: The only logical thing we can do is split. You go that way and
I'll go this way. He cannot follow us both.

So the man decided to follow Sister Logical.

Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is
worried about what has happened to Sister Logical.

Then Sister Logical arrives.

SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here!
Tell me what happened!

SL: The only logical thing happened.
The man couldn't follow us both, so he followed me

SM : Yes, yes! But what happened then?

SL : The only logical thing happened. I started to run
as fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could.

SM: And?

SL: The only logical thing happened. He reached me.

SM: Oh, dear! What did you do?

SL: The only logical thing to do.
I lifted my dress up.

SM: Oh, Sister! What did the man do?

SL: The only logical thing to do.
He pulled down his pants.

SM: Oh, no! What happened then?

SL : Isn't it logical, Sister?
A nun with her dress up can run faster than man
with his pants down.

And for those of you who thought it would be dirty,

Say two Hail Marys!

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls –The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town has a dream– As our Saturday dream continued the people of Oiseaux Morts waited for the big flying bug like things. They could see them flying in formation toward the town. Each one carried a basket filled with tar and pitch and the rider carried a lit candle. When they were over the town , one by one, the riders would drop their candles into the basket and the bug would drop the basket. Streams of flame would descend upon the town setting the thatched roofs and wooden buildings aflame. It would also burn any soldier it landed on and set their clothes on fire. But they could do nothing but watch them come.
Then suddenly a smaller flying figure , about half the size of the bug things, could be seen flying behind the formation. It seemed to be a small dragon. The riders on their bugs either didn’t see it or couldn’t be bothered with it. The little dragon flew from bug to bug.
Then it began the bug at the back of the formation had its basket burst into flame. The bug let out a horrible scream and crashed into its own soldiers. Then the next basket lit, and the next, until all fifteen bug things were on fire. As they crashed they set supply wagons on fire and destroyed some of their soldiers. Now the little dragon swopped to the wagons that carried the extra baskets for the bug things and soon theyw ere all ablaze. They were exploding and dumping burning tar and pitch over the army. The army turned and fled.
The people of the town let out a cry. “ Our Dragon has saved us”
The people of Pigeon Falls woke from their common dream and each said “ Our Dragon has saved us”.

I'm Back-sort of!

Saying for the day- Sometiems you are so sick that you don't die.

I’m back. After three days of not blogging I have returned.
I have been and still am sick.
One day of the three I turned on the computer but never entered a thing.
I was dizzy. I was in pain.
I was afraid that if I blogged it would be of a quality even lower than my usual low quality. We wouldn’t want that now would we?
So I spent two of the last three days in bed. There were times I was so sick I wished I was dead.
Yesterday I went to the doctor. He did what doctors do. He ran tests. He will get back to me.
But I am well enough to sit at the computer despite the pain. That feels good. It is like coming home.

@@@@News from Pigeon Falls– The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and the town dreams one dream-
Saturday the dragon flew up and down main street three times as if to say this town is mine.
Saturday night the weirdest thing happened, the entire town shared one dream. Every man , women, and child found themselves in the same dream but as themselves. They found themselves in the medieval town of Oiseaux Morts. They were preparing for an attack by a superior force. All the women and children had been moved to the town hall. The men an older boys were polishing what armor they had, as if polishing the armor made it work any better, and sharpening swords. There were not enough swords so some had axes or rough spears. Very soon the enemy would attack.
It would come first on big black flying bug like things. These would drop burning tar and pitch down onto the thatched roofs of the town. The men would have no choice but to fight the fire and by the time the enemy soldiers entered the town they would be worn out and in no condition to fight. It was the pattern of the evil ones from the North.
So they waited.
How will the dream end? Will the big black flying bugs burn the town to the ground? Will everyone die? If they die in the dream will Pigeon Falls die in the real world?

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and spring is here– One knows it is Spring in Pigeon Falls because the tent lady is back. Every year she comes at the start of spring. She puts up her tent in the parking lot behind Kivi & Maki’s. Then the people who put up her tent unload the truck and fill the tent with flowers. Nobody knows her name. She is just the tent lady. She seems old but she has always seemed old and she has been coming for years. She walks with a limp but people say she has always walked with a limp. The one thing they know about her for sure is that she knows her flowers.
She also seems to know everybody in town by name and more than that as well. She surprised Martha Milson by suggesting some little purple flowers would go nice behind the red flowers she planted in memory of her grandfather last year. Martha didn’t even buy those red flowers from the tent lady but she did put them in memory of her grandfather. She bought the purple flowers.
The tent lady also can tell you when the spring freezes are coming so you can cover the plants. She just seems to know these things.
People ask her all the flower questions. Like what flowers won’t the deer eat. Tent lady says that Pigeon Falls deer aren’t fussy they eat almost anything.
A truck must come during the night because every morning the tent is full of fresh new flowers. Nobody sees the truck come but it must come.
So the tent lady is here and Spring must be as well.

Why do I blog?

Saying for the day- Soemtimes it is better not to tell the truth.

The writer of “ Patterns of Ink” has raised the question” Why do bloggers blog?” He has come up with a well balanced explanation that is well worth reading.
It forced me to think of why I blog. Until now I have kept this a secret. I have not even told my children. But today I have decided to reveal all to you.
It was a bit more than two years ago. I was sitting on the dock out at the Church camp. The water was calm , the day was beautiful. Suddenly a hand came up out of the water with a golden computer keyboard. A voice said “ You were born to blog. It is your destiny”. I respond “ Voice, I am too old to Log”. The arm with the golden keyboard begins to shake. I think it is getting tired.
” Not log! BLOG! You moronic dock sitter”, the Voice again.
“Do I get the keyboard? What is blog?” I respond.
Voice “Seek help from the great Patrick who blogs already.”
Me “ Couldn’t I ask the lesser Peter”
Voice-” Go to Blogger its all explained there”
So it began. The great journey into blogging. Sometimes when I look back I think it must have been a dream. But then there is that rusted , gold colored keyboard I got from the lake. I have it hidden in a box in the back of the closet.
I blog because it is my destiny. The Voice said so.

@@@@ News From Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life goes on as usual.– The dragon flew up and down main street today as if to say this town is mine. Nothing tried to stop him. Mrs. Trumble has decided that if the council won’t let her bring dragon slayer into town then they deserve what they get so she sat in her office and sulked. The dragon carried its weapon as if expecting to run into the poltergeist.
Pastor Moe is so sure that the poltergeist is gone he has been stopping in to Nancy’s every day for coffee. This is making some of his people unhappy who think he should be spending more time visiting and drinking coffee in their houses like Pastor Marvel did. Pastor Moe seems to think that that kind of visiting serves no good purpose so he doesn’t do much of it.
Petrovich came out of his study long enough to rent out one of his furnished apartments. He hasn’t had much luck with those. He still has three that aren’t rented. One wonders if he can find a dribblet about a building being empty and staying empty.
Most of the snow is now gone from Pigeon Falls. People are looking at flower catalogues and plans are being made for summer flowers. The big thing this year is finding flowers the deer won’t eat. They found out last year that some of the flowers that the catalogue said the deer wouldn’t eat they ate anyway. The deer don’t read catalogues.

When Betty came home she went out and played with it. Now I need a breating treatment.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life goes on as usual.– Not a cup is out of place at Nancy’s. Pastor Moe is not under the illusion he is being thrown into a snowbank. There are no coffee geysers. So one may conclude either that the poltergeist is dead or has not returned.
Petrovich is locked up in his office studying old Russian manuscripts. He is trying to find the dribblets that have to do with the recent battles. There are so many dribblets and so little time.
Milk train arrived this morning with a load of tourists in a special car. They all came because of the news stories about the battle. Well , most of them came because of the news stories. One of them asked no questions but went straight to the fly Inn and got a room. He won't be leaving on the evening train.
Nancy is having a no poltergeist special – a saffron bun and a cup of coffee for $1.25. That comes with free poltergeist stories.
Buddy East says that he hasn’t received the plaque yet for the contest but as soon as he does he will send it to Margaret. Sometimes everything gets all fouled up.

Trying to decide between Time Waner and AT&T was difficu8lt. What gave Time Warner the edge was they required no long term commitment where AT&T wanted two years. I did visit a few blogs. Two families

Saying for the day: The Church is the family of God.

I have two families. One is my family by genetics and one by virtue of faith. Last week both families were there for me.
My daughter came with us to Crystal Falls to help us pack up the house. On Wednesday brothers and sisters in Christ came from United Lutheran to help pack up the house. Both families worked together to get everything ready to go.They did good work.
Then on Friday my son Patrick and his friend Curtis came with a U-haul truck. Early Saturday morning a group of brothers and sisters in Christ came from United to help them pack it. The loading went very fast. These are special people these people who name the name of Christ. Yes they are.
On Sunday we had the two U-haul trucks to unload in Neenah. Patrick figured we might have the job done by 9:00 in the evening. I was sic k in bed. Then the brothers and sisters in Christ from St. Mark’s came and the job was done by 4:00. These are special people who name the name of Christ. Yes they are.
I have two families and they were both there when I needed them. How wonderful is that?

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life goes on as usual.– The poltergeist has not returned since the great battle with the dragon.
Pastor Moe stopped at Nancy’s and had a cup of coffee. He says there never was a poltergeist. It was a mass illusion.
Nancy says that she sort of misses the thing. It did add a little excitement to life and it never broke a tea cup.
Petrovich says there is a dribblet about waiting for that which wasn’t to be again but he will have to find it.
Eino says there was a farmer that had a herd of cows. One a month a mountain lion would come down and kill and eat one cow. This went on for a long time and then somebody shot the lion. After that the farmer said he kinda missed it. That’s the way Eino feels about the poltergeist.
The people at the two stores in town are sorry to see it go. It was good for business. Wink’s now has the DC comic with the first battle in it. It’s selling at $6.00 a copy and it is selling.
Tommy TW says he feels much safer now that its gone. He can give Nancy those little kisses without worrying about a pot of tea being dumped on him.
Tommy UK says he was trying to figure some way to get the poltergeist to visit the school. That would have livened things up a bit.

Monday and the task continues

Saying for the day: Sometimes what we"know" keeps us from seeing what is.

Another “ Leave a Comment Monday” has come sliding in and its time to continue with my thankless, self appointed task of translating old sayings into sayings for the internet.

1. I am as lonesome as a solitary comment
2. I came, I saw and I commented
3. I cried because I had no comments until I saw the man who had no blog
4. I didn't like the color of his comment

5. I double dog dare you to comment
6. I feel like a warmed over comment
7. I have nothing to offer but blood toil tears and comments
8. I laughed till I commented

9. I might as well comment I can't dance
10. I wasn't born commenting
11. I won't take no for a comment
12. I wouldn't give you two bits for his comment

13. If at first you don't succeed, comment, comment again
14. If his comments were lard, they couldn't grease up a good size skillet
15. If I commented once I commented a thousand times
16. If life gives you words, make comments

17. If the comment fits, wear it
18. If wishes were comments, we'd all have a lot
19. If you can't stand the comments, get out of the blog
20. Ill gotten comments

Now its time for you to take the subtle hint and comment.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly free, and life goes on as usual.-The big question in Pigeon falls is “ Is Nancy’s poltergeist dead?” For that matter do poltergeists die? Since the great battle on Saturday there has been no sign of the poltergeist. Nancy says she almost misses it. All her tea cups, all her buns, all her coffee stays where it is supposed to. It almost feels like somebody died.
Mrs. Trumble is telling people that she alone with her blessed bullets can take on the demon dragon. She has called a special council meeting to get the town ordinance on guns removed so she can bring in the “dragon slayer”. She just might get her way.
TommyUK( Undertaker’s Kid) wonders about what kind of weapon the dragon had and where dragons go to get weapons. He had never heard of a poltergeist gun nor had he come across it in his reading.
Since none of this is rational poor Eino doesn’t know what to think. He has ended up with a headache too big for a Tylenol. He watched the big battle from the front of the garage but he knows there are no dragons and if there were dragons they wouldn’t carry a weapon. Sometimes what we know keeps us from seeing what is.
Wink’s Woods is pushing DC to get that comic here of the first battle. Both Wink’s and Kivi&Maki’s are expecting an influx of tourists after the last battle. Two of the national television networks came and interviewed people who saw the fight. Both of them played it as one of those odd thing pieces but it will bring in tourists. Wink’s is selling empty plastic boxes about the size of a matchbox that they claim has a piece of the poltergeist in. They picked up the pieces after the battle and sealed them in the little plastic boxes. You can’t see anything because the poltergeist is invisible.
Is the poltergeist really dead? What is in Wink’s boxes? If the poltergeist returns will it be upset by the boxes? Where is the dragon ? Will Mrs. Trumble get the law changed? And is Tommy UK really the undertaker’s kid? Some of these questions might be answered this week.

Too Much Stuff

Saying for the Day:The pers0n with lots of stuff when he dies is just as dead as a person who dies with nothing.

Junk and stuff! In 44 years of married life we have accumulated a horrible amount of stuff and junk. When we went to seminary everything we owned fit in the car and it was a car not a van. When we left seminary everything we owned fit in a very small trailer. When we moved from our first parish to Crystal Falls everything we owned fit in a small truck, a “Baumann Egg Truck”. Yesterday it took two u-haul trucks, a big and a small, to take what was left of our stuff after all that Peter had taken with his van and stored in his garage.
There is no question but that we are accumulators. In the great big house in which we lived it didn’t look like that much. It was spread out and some was stored in closets we never went in. But here in the trucks we could see that we owned far too much. It might not even fit in our new small house.
It’s not that we didn’t try. We had three garage sales. We gave chairs and clothes to St. Vincent De. Paul. WE tried to get rid of stuff. We were just much better at taking and keeping than we were at getting rid of or letting go.
So here we are with a half a truck house and two trucks of stuff to put in it. I hope the basement will take it all.
I promise that I will begin to formulate a plan to get rid of most of this stuff.I’m just not sure when that will be.

@@@@ New from Pigeon Falls– the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, poltergeists do what they do, and life goes on as usual.-Yesterday will go down in Pigeon Falls history as the day of the second great battle. It was about noon when the dragon was first seen flying down the main street toward Nancy’s. It was carrying something that looked like a ray gun from the movies. Suddenly it was stopped, as before, in midair. The poltergeist had come to do battle. The dragon raised his claw and fired the gun. There were sparks like electricity and then there was the most horrible howl you have ever heard and suddenly the dragon lurched ahead and almost flew into Nancy’s shop. At the last moment it turned and flew up and down the street as if to say the town is mine. It was at this point Mrs. Trumble came out of the town hall carrying what looked like dragon slayer, her shotgun. The dragon seeing her took off across the top of the Masonic building and out into the woods. This round goes to the dragon or perhaps Mrs. Trumble.
It seems Mrs. Trumble had a wooden copy of her shotgun because there is a town ordinance forbidding the carrying of guns inside the town limits. So she really couldn’t have done much more than shake it at the dragon.
There were a lot of tourists who saw the battle. Sales went up at both Wink’s and Kivi&Maki’s . TommyUK said that if he only knew when these battles were going to take place he would sell popcorn. TommyTW said they are lucky that the battles haven’t harmed the town.
Petrovitch says he thinks there is a dribblet about an old lady with a stick fighting giants of the air but he can’t remember which one.
Is the poltergeist destroyed? Will the dragon return. Will Mrs. Trumble get the rule changed so she can bring her real shotgun? Will Petrovich ever fin the right dribblets. Would TommyUK really sell pop corn? And of course is Tommy UK really the undertaker’s son?

Two Memes

Saying for the Day- If one is good two is better.

In the last week I saw two memes that I liked . One on the Old Fart’s Blog and one on Ellie’s. Let’s start with Ellie’s.

List 5 facts of life If Martha Lived Next Door.

1. I would build a higher back fence.
2. I would build a fence around the front yard with a no visitors sign.
3. I would take a petition to all the neighbors saying that we didn’t want an ex-convict living next door to us.
4. I would beg my wife not to visit her.
5. I would do everything possible to keep my sloppy but satisfactory life style.

Now the one from the Old Fart’s Blog.
I t’s a Meme for events, births and deaths, etc on one’s birthdate.

3 Events
996 - Sixteen-year-old Otto III is crowned Holy Roman Emperor.
1881 - The American Red Cross is established by Clara Barton.
1945 - United States screen legend Humphrey Bogart marries actress Lauren Bacall.

2 Famous Birthdays
1904 - Fats Waller, American pianist (d. 1943)

1 Holiday
The Feast of Saint Constantine the Great

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fight poltergeists, and life goes on as usual.– There were so many tourists this morning that they had to put an extra passenger car on the milk train . People want to see the dragon and keep wishing another great fight will break out. But it looks like it is going to be another quiet day in Pigeon Falls.
Wink’s Woods is sold out of dragon key chains and is pushing DC to hurry with the comics. . Kivi & Maki are now selling sweaters that say “ I saw the great fight” on the front. On the back is a picture of a defeated looking dragon. Even people who weren’t there are buying them.
TommyUK stopped in to Nancy’s and had a cup of tea and a saffron bun. Not a tea cup moved. Not a single bun flew. The poltergeist must be sleeping. Just after TommyUK left TommyTW came in . He kissed Nancy on the cheek and a saffron bun hit him in the head. The poltergeist wasn't sleeping after all. Perhaps it was resting, if poltergeists rest. Tommy TW left quickly when a tub of cinnamon bun frosting rose up into the air and started in his direction.
Petrovich says he remembers more of that Driblet now. It went “when those that should not be fight and fight again..”So he thinks the dragon and the poltergeist will do battle again. He just can’t find the original Driblet to get the rest of the verse. When he does he will publish it on his website.
If Petrovich is right it’s too bad they don’t know when it will happen. They could have television cameras there and they could sell tickets. The dragon was beaten so badly that it won’t return, Driblet or no Driblet. The town belongs to the poltergeist.

Expensive Dragons

Saying for the Day: There are things in life that you just can't have. Live with it!

The new Bradford Exchange catalogue came before we left for Crystal so I brought it with us. I learned something from it. Dragons are expensive.
On page 15 there is a beautiful red dragon rising from what looks like a Fabergė egg. It doesn’t play music or anything it just looks like it is coming out of the egg. I pick this one because there are a number of other things coming out of Fabergė eggs and they all cost less than the dragon.
There is a cross with steps of memory that comes out of an egg and plays Amazing Grace. It costs less.
There is a little dog that rises from an egg and plays “ You’ve Got a Friend” . It costs less.
There is a little cat that rises from an egg and plays “ All I have to do is Dream”. It costs less.
There is an elegant Cinderella rising from an egg that plays “ A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes” . It costs less.
There is a floral bouquet rising out of an egg and playing “ You are My Sunshine”. It costs less.
There is an adorable teddy bear that rises out of an egg and plays “ Always in My Heart”. It costs less.
There is a cute little hummingbird rising from an egg and playing “On the wings of love”. It costs less.
Dragons are expensive. Even more so when you buy them from the Bradford Exchange. But why when all these other things have music included is the dragon more expensive? I do not understand. I think it is part of an insidious plot to make me miserable.
It won’t work. I’ll buy my dragons from someplace else where they are cheaper than anything at the Bradford Exchange.
The Bradford catalogue goes into the recycle box.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons and poltergeists fight, poltergeists play flutes, and life goes on as normal– Yesterday was a quiet day in PigeonFalls. Nancy didn’t have a single tea cup or bun move on its own, the dragon didn’t fly up or down main street, TommyUK behaved in school, TommyTW returned from his visit to the big city and spent most of the day at Nancy’s coffee shop, and Pastor Moe stayed safely in his study.
The Toivo Lakanens got a puppy. Its half Lab and half some kind of Spaniel. It has been busy turning the house upside down. They were not ready for Bombs, that’s what they finally decided to call him. The first thing he did was jump up on the little end table that had the vase that Mrs. Lakanen got from her great Aunt Helen. The vase fell off and broke. Bombs had struck. That’s when they knew they had to dog proof the house. But every time they thought they were secure Bombs found something else to rip, break, or spill. It was them against the puppy. In addition to his ability to break things the pup could pee. They swear he had enough pee to fill a child’s swimming pool. He peed everywhere. So they bought some of that special paper to pee on. He loved it. He chewed it into all kinds of little pieces and scattered them everywhere. Bombs had struck again. So they got a gate to confine him to the kitchen where everything could be easily wiped up. With him safely in the kitchen they went next door to visit a neighbor. When they got back they found the gate down and the dog in the living room. He had peed on the couch, the chair and somehow on the dining room table. How he got up there they haven’t been able to figure out. So Mr. Lakanen bought a large cage. Every time the dog even looks like it might pee it goes in the cage and then outside. He is not going to let Bombs defeat him.
Nancy has beeen crying on TommyTW’s shoulder about how people blame her for this poltergeist thing. She didn’t want it and didn’t ask for it. TommyTW did his best to comfort her. She feels better just being close to him.

Presidential Bid Over

Saying for the day- Sometimes its good to0 know you can't make it up the hill no matter how hard you try.

My dear friends. It is with a heavy heart that I address you today and make this official announcement. I am officially ending my run for the presidency.
There have , of course, been problems from the start. First of all I found it impossible to pick a party . I couldn’t decide to be either a Republican or a Democrat. You have to be one or the other to win in this country. But both parties seemed more concerned about themselves than they did about the country or the people of the country. They spend so much time attacking each other and trying to prove the other party is bad they have little time left to do anything good.
But the thing that forced me out in the end was money. My opponents announced what they had raised in three months. They had amounts like $26 million dollars. How do you compete against that. The total in my campaign fund was $.37 . I could have had another $5.00 from my friend at the gas station but I didn’t want to be beholding to American Oil.
How far can $.37 get you against $26 million dollars? Not very far.
So I quit. I’m going to go back to running my railroad empire in my garage.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fight with poltergeists, and the high school band has a concert.– The high school band concert was held last night and people will be talking about it for days to come. It started with the instruments tuning up. Well The tuba tuning up and there was nobody holding it. It sounded horrible. Then the keys on the piano began to play. It wasn’t much of a song but again there was nobody pressing the keys down. At that point the eight chairs walked down from the stage and formed a circle in the front. Mrs. Heitimaki fainted as the chair set down in front of her. Paul Hunkala picked her up and carried her to the back of the room where they got her back on her feet. In the front eight flutes, some pulled from the hands of their owners now hung in front of the chairs. They played a simple little number played by first year flute players. Not much of a musician our poltergeist. Then the chairs went back to their proper places. The flutes returned to their owners and everything returned to normal. The rest of the concert was uneventful. The best players were named and given awards. The director got his usual bouquet. It was just like any small town music concert.
People left blaming Nancy for bringing “her poltergeist” to the concert. Poor Nancy didn’t know what to think. TommyUK said it was the best concert he had ever gone to. He might even go again next year. People were trying to name the piece the poltergeist had played on the flutes. Just an ordinary concert in a small town.
Petrovich says there is driblet that speaks of “ when those that can not be do battle” but he can’t remember the rest of it. He is sure it has to do with the battle between the dragon and the poltergeist. It also speaks of “music that can not be” and that he thinks has to do with the band concert. When he finds the driblet he will publish it on his website.
Mrs. Heitimaki says that if it wasn’t for the bravery of Paul Hunkala she would still be on the floor passed out. Who knows what that horrible poltergeist would have done to her. She might have ended up dancing to the music of the flutes.Mrs. Heitimaki has a vivid imagination. Mr. Heitimaki doesn’t go to concerts he was over at the Fly Inn downing a few. He’ll get an earful when he gets home.

Fast Forward from Ralph 10

Saying for the Day: A man's best friend is his dog.
I have a good friend named Ralph and he forwards all kinds of stuff to me. Every Wednesday I try to pick the best and share it with my blog friends.

Where do pets come from?

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."

And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, " I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased .

And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn't give a darn one way or the other.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fight poltergeists , the school band has a concert, and life goes on as usual– A good part of Pigeon Falls will be there. Everybody has a relative in the band. Tommy UK doesn’t want to go but since his older sister plays a flute his parents are making him go. Nancy is going because she used to play in the band and has gone to every spring concert since she graduated. Some folks think she should stay home this year because she might bring the poltergeist with her. Everybody , now, is calling it Nancy’s poltergeist. Poor Nancy she doesn’t want the thing , whatever it is. She never asked it to come to her shop. Why doesn’t it go and haunt the sauna. Give old Jack a little trouble. It could make things out of bars of soap and create images in the steam. But no! It has to play with tea cups and saffron buns. But it is not keeping her from going to the concert no matter what people might say.
The owner of Wink’s Woods, who is no longer Wink, has asked DC comics to produce for him a comic version of the battle of the Dragon and the poltergeist to sell in the store. He sent DC the story and some pictures of main street. DC has put an artist to work on it.
The agreement is that DC keeps all rights to the comic . Wink’s Woods has to buy 2000 copies at $3.00 a piece. They can buy more if they want to. They will sell for a cover price of $6.00.
Nancy asked Pastor Moe to come and see her at the shop. He came but he remembered what happened the last time he was there and seemed worried. She asked him to do an exorcism and drive out the poltergeist. He laughed at her and told her there was no such thing as a poltergeist. That was when the “no such thing” picked him up, carried him out the door, and dumped him in the street. He did not return. He is a slow learner that Pastor Moe.
Only the band members had to go to school today as their was some kind of teacher training. So TommyUK stopped in right after Pastor Moe sailed out. He joked that Pastor Moe needed a cape and a super suit. Then he could be the super flying pastor. Nancy didn’t think it was one bit funny. She was telling Tommy how horrible it was to have a poltergeist. Tommy told her she was looking at it all wrong. She was making more money than ever before. Her place was protected from dragons. None of her tea cups had been damaged. The poltergeist seems like a nice thing to have around. She sort of agreed with him.

The Wheel keeps Turning

Saying for the day: Of the writing of books there is no end.

The “ Wheel of Time” has now turned out enough books. It doesn’t need any more.
I went to Barnes and Noble to get the last five books in the ten book series of the “ Wheel of Time”. I figure I could do some serious reading in the evening in Crystal Falls since there will be no television. During the day we are finishing packing the house to load into the truck on Saturday.
So I go to Barnes and Noble. I go to the science fiction section and they seem to be short books eight and ten. A very nice lady sees me looking so pitiful and goes in the back room and comes back with both volumes. Life is good and people are nice. Now I have the entire series. I have all ten volumes. That’s when she asks if I wouldn’t like volume eleven as well. Volume eleven of a ten volume set. The back of my book says there are ten volumes . I came prepared to finish the set. But the author while I was gone and not looking has written another volume. That’s not fair. I need closure. I need my fantasy world to come to a “and they lived happily ever after ending.” The author can not be allowed to keep adding volumes. It just isn’t fair. I can’t afford an infinite volume collection. I want an end to this. I demand an end to this.
But I bought volume eleven as I need to know what is in it. Not until after six, seven, eight, nine, and ten , of course. But I do need to know.
Shame on you Robert Jordan. Shame ! Shame.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons and poltergeists fight battles in the air, and Nancy wants her tea cups back-Nancy did a lot of business yesterday as people stopped in to talk about the battle and see the teacup V sign. She sold a lot of coffee and not much tea. She heard the story and told the battle story at least a hundred times. Tommy UK stopped in and told how he heard the dragon swearing as it left .At that point the tea cups jiggled as if the poltergeist was laughing. The milk train this morning brought the first group of tourists who were hoping for a repeat of the battle . They all stopped in at Nancy’s but by this morning the tea cups had returned to their proper place. Nancy did get to tell the story to each one of them. One doesn’t think they really believed it. It is a rather unbelievable story.
In the rest of Pigeon Falls life went on as normal. A little maple syrup was made but not much. It’s a poor year for maple syrup. Members of the congregation of Last Lutheran were still muttering about the length of Pastor Moe’s Easter sermon. Tom Hasmore , who doesn’t like Pastor Moe, said that he took extra long to say nothing.– A poor widow was remembering the car crash from this time last year that took her young husband and left her with three little kids to raise. Some farmers were working on their equipment believing that spring really would come. The usual crowd was down at the Fly Inn doing the usual thing. Of course a lot of the conversation at the Fly Inn was about the great sky battle. The snow was melting off the pigeon statue and the pigeons were making sure it wouldn’t be missed. The sales continued at Wink’s Woods and Kiv&Maki’s with tourists buying little over priced dragon key chains. They haven’t figured out how to make a poltergeist key chain yet. Perhaps, tiny tea cups in the shape of a V. The Methodist Pastor was sitting in his study trying to decide what he should say to the two families from Last Lutheran that had asked what they had to do to join his church. He didn’t want to take advantage of the problems at Last Lutheran but they did need a church home. Big lumber trucks still rumbled through town on their way to the train loading dock. The snowman in the cage besides the Masonic building was melting and somebody who picked the right date that it would be gone would soon be a few dollars richer. Eino sat in his office desperately trying to find rational explanations for dragons and poltergeists. He failed. Tommy UK was driving the eighth grade English teacher up the wall. All in all it was as ordinary as a day gets in Pigeon Falls.

We accomplished a lot today. well to be honest Betty and Pennie accomplished a lot. In the morning Pennie leaves . Sometime tomorrow a group of local people are coming to help us pack up. I tried to do some blog visiting but only got through three rows of links. The computer kept crashing and hanging up. To do those three rows I took three time longer than usual. Well its only a week. @@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, poltergeists do what they do, and life goes on as usual-There was no school in Pigeon Falls today to give people who went visiting on the holiday time to get back. So Wink’s Woods and Kivi & Maki had special sales . They were trying to get rid of their winter stuff before spring really does come. Despite the snow ,spring will happen one of these days. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the snow was melting. There were lots of people downtown. That’s when it started. Suddenly there was the dragon breathing fire and heading straight for Nancy’s shop. Suddenly it stopped dead in mid-flight as if held by an invisible force. It spewed forth fire and flapped its wings but it went nowhere. Then it turned and flew to the end of the street and off into the woods and to whatever place it goes. Tommy UK , who was watching from in front of Eino’s said that he could feel what the dragon was saying but he wasn’t aloud to use words like that. It seemed people had witnessed the first great battle between the poltergeist and the dragon. The dragon being the big loser and not a happy one.
After that the teacups formed a big V on Nancy’s counter which stayed all day. People coming in for coffee commented on the battle. It seems that Nancy’s poltergeist is protective of Nancy. Like all good stories the battle grew with telling. The size of the dragons flame increased. The length of the battle increased. They even had one old man get burned, which never happened. Nancy just listened and smiled. Even if it is protective she wishes it would go away and leave her tea cups alone. Tea is not the same served in coffee cups.
Will there be another battle? Will the dragon lose again? Can Tommy UK really hear the dragons thoughts? Will Nancy ever get her tea cups back. And of course, is Tommy UK really the undertaker’s kid?

Easter

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls- the little town in my garage, where the trains still run, dragons fly, poltergesists do what they do, and life is normal-It is Easter in Pigeon Falls and a lot of the good people will rejoice that Jesus has risen . They will sing the old hymns. They will marvel at full churches. They will go home feeling good. Some others will celebrate Easter ,as they celebrate everything else , at the Fly Inn. And still others will celebrate Easter by sleeping in. But for the most part it will be a quiet day.
*****

We went and had breakfast at church this morning. It was a great breakfast. Then we went to the Easter service which was everything you could ask from a Easter service and a bit more. When we got home my son, his wife, and two grandkids arrived. They played with the dog and then looked for Easter Eggs and some candy. We then went to Old Country Buffet for lunch. With such diverse food likings it was the ideal place to go. Then we came back and watched the two dogs play. We also watched part of the Master's golf tournament. They had to leave early as Bree's allergy was acting up and she didn't bring her inhaler. Then Betty , Pennie, and I played canasta and Pennie won. I didn't get to visit any blogs but still it was a good day. Now I will take a breathing treatment.

A Winner at Last

Saying for the day- Some things are worth waiting for.

The wait is over.

We have a winner.

The seven judges and one alternate have voted.

We had scary dragons, romantic dragons, friendly dragons, hungry dragons, and even cute little dragons.

I hated the fact that we had to pick one story when they all deserved to win.

I loved each and every story. They were like beautiful jewels. Each different from the other but a thing of beauty in its own right.

You can see these stories HERE.

The judges agreed with me that these were special stories. The winner got three first place votes, second place got two, and the other three first place votes were spread among the writers.

But in the end every contest must have a winner. To be the winner in this prestigious group is truly an honor.

That honor goes to:

Margaret

Congratulations Margaret. Thank you to all the marvelous writers who took part.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– The little town in my garage where trains still run, dragons fly, poltergeists do what they do, and the Liar’s Club has a winner.-The Liar’s Club met this morning and Buddy East, the Grand Master Liar, announced the winner of the Liar’s Club dragon story telling contest. The winner was somebody named Margaret who writes a blog called “ Do You Have Issues”. Bob Smith said that he didn’t think that was right because dragons shouldn’t be cute they should be menacing. Then arguments broke out all across the club. Each member seemed to have a story they thought should have won. That’s when Buddy East reminded them that the decision of the judges was final. Next year they should volunteer to be one of the judges. That quieted the group down. They were all pleased with the high quality of the stories they had received. How a dragon should act seemed to differ from individual to individual and thus shaped how they saw a particular story. Buddy East then pointed out that the winner’s plaque was not yet ready. It was promised in a week. Nothing ever goes right in Pigeon Falls.
The Good Friday service went well yesterday. There were no poltergeist appearances and no dragons. Pastor Moe went over his allotted time and people felt was the most boring of the group. Jack did fine even though he was a bit short. All in all it was a meaningful service for all those who sat through all seven words.

Today's Link-Will be on hold until we return from the house in Crystal Falls. Then I promise new and greater links.
Didn't go anywhere today. I didn't blog much. I napped in the afternoon so did Betty. It was a lazy day.I played canasta with Betty and Pennie and I won. Now I will take a breathing treatment.

Good Friday

It is Good Friday and time to remember what it cost God to show his love for us.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, poltergeists ?, and life goes on as usual- It is Good Friday and this afternoon there will be the traditional seven words from the cross at Last Lutheran. Poor Pastor Moe is sitting in his study afraid that the poltergeist he claims not to believe in will do something to him at the service. Jack for Jack's Sauna is sitting home worried that the sermon he is going to deliver won't be good enough for all those pastors who will be there. Tommy UK is at home in his room afraid that his parents are going to make him sit through that three hour service again this year. Last year he fell asleep. Nancy has decided to go to the service and is afraid her poltergeist will go with her though it hasn't done anything today at all. Buddy East is really afraid that his Liar's Club judging committe will never agree on a winner in the dragon story contest. Mrs. Trumble is getting ready to go and she isn't afraid of anything.

Today's Link-There's a Penquin on the Telly- Did you ever forget a bill ? Then you will undertsnad this blog entry- Leave a DR. John but no bill. I never charge for the service.
I had a nice day. I blogged in the morning. Then Betty and Pennie went to get Pennie's office cleaned and the oil changed in the van. The dog and I stayed home and watched the soaps. Then Pennie, Betty, and I went to Barnes and Noble and I got some books. Then we went to Office Max and got some boxes and packing stuff. I came back and finished blogging . Then I watched House. Now I am having a breathing treatment.

Ticked at Taxes

Saying for the Day- It is too much to expect the government to be fair.

Yesterday I did my income taxes. It seems that because I didn’t have money withheld from my social security and the withholding from my pension was too small I ended up owing money. Okay , I understand that. I am willing to pay all that I am supposed to. What irritates me is that now the government wants me to pay a “ late fee” because they haven’t had my money to play with all year. It isn’t good enough that I am paying the entire amount by April 15. It isn’t good enough that they had my social security money to play with all these years. No! Now they want a “late fee”.
In all the years that they took too much the government never offered me interest on the extra. I got the refund at the end but they had that extra money to use during the year and paid no interest. Think of all the people who get refunds and then understand that all that money was like a loan to the government. They never pay interest. That isn’t fair.
If you pay too much they use it and that’s that but if you pay too little there comes a “ late fee”. The “ late fee” drives you to overpay to avoid it. The government profits both ways. They have the extra if you overpay and they don’t pay interest and if you underpay they have the “late fee”.
But the government is not fully heartless. If I had gone blind during the year or had a major catastrophe in my life they would have waved the “ late fee”. How much kinder than that can you get ?
I paid it. Now I will contact the pension board and have them increase the withholding. Next year I might even get money back but , of course, no interest.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– the little town in my garage where trains still run, dragons fly, poltergeists poltergeist, and life goes on as usual.-There will be a community Good Friday service at Last Lutheran Church. They will be doing the seven words from the cross. This year they are short two pastors so they are using lay people to do two of the words . Jack from Jack’s Sauna, is one of them and he is scared stiff. He says that he loves to preach but not with pastors present. They make him nervous. If he makes a mistake the lay people won’t notice but the pastors will. The pastors know everything about the bible there is to know. Jack has the last word and he claims that’s the hardest because Jesus just dies and not much else. It doesn’t have all that good stuff like forgiveness , concern, drama that the other word’s have. Poor Jack has until tomorrow to work it out.
Pastor Moe is worried about the Good Friday service as well. He is afraid that the poltergeist , that he doesn’t believe in, will do something to him at the service. This with four visiting pastors. It would be so embarrassing .At least he can go outside now without his own personal snow storm. Its enough he has Mr. Hasmore causing him problems over the new computers and the painting of the church.
Nancy is of the “if you can’t beat them , join them” school. She is now calling her cinnamon roles “ poltergeist buns”. They are selling very well. People are coming in for a cup of coffee and the latest poltergeist story. Tommy UK stopped by yesterday after school. He was wearing a catcher’s mask . Just in case, he said, the poltergeist decided throw things again. But he had his cup of tea and a poltergeist role and nothing happened. Soon after he left, however, all the tea cups piled themselves up into a dragon shape. They stayed like that for the rest of the day. Life with a poltergeist can be interesting.
*****

Todays link-Bert Bananas- Is this for real? Can there be a person like this? You decide. But leave a Dr. John in the comment. There is a Dr. John. I don't paint numbers.
I had a good day. My sister called and wished me a happy Easter. I blogged. I watched my soaps. I played with the dog. I visted most of my links. I played canasta with Betty and Pennie and Betty won. My life is in such a routine I can almost write see yesterday for todays activities. Now I will get a breathing treatment.
