I am Right - So there

Saying for the day: My right is righter than your right.

Should gay people be allowed to marry?
Should abortion be legal?
Should we allow assisted suicide?
Should we get out of Iraq , now?
Is President Bush a good President?
Should we wreck the economy to try to stop Global warming?
Is the Bible the literal Word of God?
Should illegal aliens be sent home?
Should we make English the official language of this country?

These are some of the questions that divide us.
On at least one of these questions we have a strong position.
We are in the right.
They are in the wrong.
There is no room for gray.

We do not need to listen to each other or understand each other.
We do not need to worry about the feelings of the others.
They are wrong. They are evil.

We even phrase our arguments in terms of right.
“ A woman’s right to do what she wants with her body”.
“ The unborn child’s right to life”.

When you are right you can bomb your opponent, demean your opponent, but never , never listen to your opponent.

What separates us is rightness.

Jesus has a word for us.

Luke 18:9 (New International Version) New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:

@@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragoons fly, and The Dream has ended-Yesterday the people of Pigeon Falls woke up to fire sirens. After the surprise of waking up the volunteers headed down to the fire hall. There they discovered the fire was at the Petrovich building. When they arrived they found the room of Petrovich’s renter engulfed in flames. Tommy UK was standing in the middle of the lawn shaking his head. It seems that Tommy UK had decided that Petrovich’s renter was responsible for The Dream. He had come to see if there was any way he could stop him. While he was standing looking up at the window it suddenly flew open and the renter flew out and landed in the middle of the lawn. He got up and took off as if the devil, himself was after him. Then the dragon came and breathed fire through the open window and the entire room burst into flame. That’s when Tommy set off the fire alarm from the corner box. The firemen quickly extinguished the blaze which seemed to be confined to the renter’s room. On entering they found the remains of what had been a large metal box with electronic equipment in it. It was totally fried.
Later that morning Mayo’s called and both Fred and Alex had awaken. The Dream is gone and Pigeon Falls remains.

Today's Link- American Legends- If you missed the Belmont Stakes you can read all about it on this sporty blog. Leave a spirited Dr. John in the comment unless like Margaret you can come up with something really weird.
I spent the day at Six Flags over Greater America with the three grandsons. It is late and I realy need a breathing treatment.

Sometimes, if after you've listened and heard and tried to understand, don't you need to throw the money lenders from the temple?

Pigeon Falls is back to normal???
That depends on the difinition of normal. Pigeon Falls was never normal. However, the little town is unique. The characters, their thoughts, and actions come alive everytime I read your blog. What other town can boast of a Tommy UK?
I rest my case, Dr. John.

Hooray for the Poltergeist, the dragon and Tommy UK!

As for the rest of us -- may we all learn to treat others the way we would like to be treated.
