Sunday and God's People

Saying for the day-Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. What does this mean? We should fear and love God that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but regard it as holy, and gladly hear and learn it. Martin Luther

It is Sunday. For me it is a special day. I know there is an argument over what day should be The Day of Worship. Should it be Saturday or should it be Sunday. I have heard all the arguments on both sides.
But for me the day is not special because of it being the “ right “ day. It is special because today some of God’s people will gather. We will sing songs about God, we will pray for the sick and for other needs, we will hear God’s Word read. We will hear God’s Word expounded by the preacher. After the service we will have coffee together and share a little bit of our lives.
It is not the day that makes it special it is the people of God that make the day special.
Have a good Sunday.

News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal. The Youth Group of Last Lutheran served over 800 cups of coffee yesterday and still got the church cleaned up and ready for today’s services. O ! There were still a few extra tables left from the craft sales in the fellowship hall but they didn’t get in the way of the morning coffee. The offering basket was back on the serving table . There was no basket yesterday. The coffee was given as a service and no money was accepted. People found that hard to believe but the youth insisted. They have learned well lessons about serving from Pastor Joan.
The Christmas Craft day was a huge success. The Methodist ladies made and sold 500 pasties which might be a record. Lots of craft items were sold. Over one hundred pictures were made with Robert’s cardboard dragon . Even all but one of Petrovich’s bobble heads of the great seer were sold and some of his little books of driblets.
It was a lot of work but people really seemed to enjoy it and are looking forward to next year’s big sale. It will be even bigger and better.

Today's Link-A walking Paradox- A few words from a Methodist Pastor
Had a great day today. Church was very good. The choir was excellent. Came home and took my grandson's to Toys R Us so Alex could spend his birthday money. Then we stopped and bought a birthday cake. Came home and the boys played while we watched the Packers clobber the Vikings. I wish I had taken a picture of our big hulking dog sleeping on Pat's lap. Elijah brought a bear that he and Bree trade back and forth because he heard she was in the hospital. He was glad she was back home. Betty and I lost to Alex and Pennie in canasta. Now it is so quiet because they have gone home. I need a breathing treatment.

Everyone did so well at the Christmas Craft Show. It appears that the recent cold spell in Pigeon Falls did not affect them financially.

I feel the same way about the day. I figure I rest and honor both Sat. and Sun. just in case. =O)

This is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Everyday. However:

In a few hours I will also gather with members of our local community for worship. Without Sunday the week is too long, too tedious, and too bland. Remembering that God is the center of my life keeps me balanced, focused and filled with joy.

So I guess we should not criticise
Not shout at the kids,
Not be angry at teenagers, or be angry at the dog or cat

After all everything else is superfluous, if we spend the rest of the date mouthing petty insults, profanities and pet hates.

Wishing you a great Sun Day
