Last night in Bed

Saying for the day:All that happens in bed is not sexy.

Here in Neenah Betty and I sleep in the same bed.

That’s more information than you wanted isn’t it. It produces such weird images. But this is not a sexy lead in to a blog. I sort of wish it was. In Crystal we slept in two beds , side by side, each with its own motors so we could elevate the head end. Here we sleep in one bed and elevate my side of the bed with pillows. In any case last night at around twelve o’clock I had a coughing spell which because we ere in the same bed shook the entire bed. This caused Betty to wake up and then she didn’t hear something. I didn’t hear it either but it didn’t register on me. She knew there was something wrong. The noise of the oxygen concentrator was missing. So she got up, turned on the light, and sure enough the concentrator wasn’t running, It hadn’t been turned on.Out came the oximetor and my oxygen level was 89. Turned on the machine and the level went to 96. It’s a good job that Betty knows what she doesn’t hear. This , of course, was not what this blog was supposed be about. But I thought it was more interesting than our ride down which was uneventful and boring.

Getting ready to leave, knowing we wouldn't be back until April, was a tiny bit more interesting. By Friday we had a pile of boxes in the hall of things we had to have in Neenah. I took one look at the pile and told Betty we couldn’t take the computer desk. Friends came and helped pack the van which was good because poor Betty would have had to do all the packing since with my lungs and my walker I am of little use. When the van was filled to overflowing there were still four boxes in the hall. We had to open them (who puts labels) to see what we were leaving. Mostly winter clothes (pray for a mild winter). So at 3:00 clock in the afternoon we left Crystal Falls for our new adventure. I feel like Abraham.

News from Pigeon Falls- The little town in my garage where the trains still run and a little old lady fights to keep them running– Pigeon Falls has been without power since sometime yesterday. That means no heat, no lights, no television, no toast, and no hot meals. The exception being those few people who still have wood stoves to cook on. The electric company says it is working as fast as it can to correct the problem but it was caused by a unique set of circumstances. It seems that the wind and the freezing rain caused a tree to fall on a power line ( that’s not unique) and then a transformer did what transformers aren’t supposed to do which caused transformers all over the place to either blow out or shut down. Now each of those transformers must be either replaced or brought back on line. They have no idea how long this will take.

Petrovich is telling everybody that this is the beginning of the end. A clear sign that the end of Pigeon Falls is near. And people are listening to him.

Mayor Trumble says this is more nonsense. She has seen five big power outages since she has lived in Pigeon Falls and the town was still there afterwards. Some have even learned to be ready with back up generators to keep the furnace running and let them make toast. Let Petrovich show us in the driblet where a power outage is a sign.

Nancy, who has a powerful back up generator , stands with Mrs. Trumble. She is doing a brisk business as people stop in for their morning coffee and a cinnamon bun or even a saffron bun. She is reminding them of all the other outages and the town remains.

While all of this goes on Mayor Trumble continues to push to save the railroad and thus save the town. She is putting a bit of pressure on the governor ( an old friend), as well as the state Senator and Representative from the Pigeon Falls area to get some state help. But can she pull it out or will the prophecy come true?

Today's Link-Every Little Thing- Remember to put the words Dr. John in the comment to get those wintery JCPOINTS.Check yours HERE ( through November 30.)
Betty and Pennie went to Pennie' old house to bring a load of stuff from the garage in the morning. In the afternoon we wet to Menard's to get a kitchen sink kit for her old house. Then we did some serious shopping. Got some things for the 027 layout when we recreate it.
Well I need a breathing treatment.

Hope no one at the power company is a follower of Petrovich. The power company might "forget" to fix the lines.

This is similar to when moms do not hear their kids....when all is silent we know there is trouble.

WTG Betty! Dr. John we wives know, from years of listening for the noises and silences of our children, what we should and shouldn't be hearing...especially at night! I pray that you do well, and that recover from your move soon.

I didn't blog, and barely even checked emails yesturday. We had been hit by the big winter storm, and while not as bad as in alot of places, is wretched bad for here. Yesturday we were forced to go out in it and do grocery shopping. Normally we might have waited, but more storms could be coming next week and no way could we have gone two weeks without getting some food in here.

Why doesn't someone start selling "save our town" teeshirts to help raise money to save the railroad in Pidgeon Falls? Just a thought.

Well Dr John,
I guess you don't ask Betty if the earth moved - well the bed does
But she sure seems to know when to let you catch your breath ...

all sounds like 'sexy' going ons to me ... I'm thinking about getting one of those oxygen masks myself, if they can keep you going thru the night - sounds better and much more powerful high than Viagra
