Global Warming Bah Humbug

Global Warming was a reasonable scientific theory. It took data on melting icecaps, a general warming trend, and massive weather shifts and tried to explain them in terms of greenhouse gases. It was and is a plausible theory. As a theory it was open to debate, revision, change, and even the possibility of being proven wrong. As a theory it had to compete with other theories. The new ice age theory where we were moving toward a new ice age caused by those same green house gasses. The big city theory that suggests we have massive weather changes in all directions because big cities with all their cement change heat patterns and air flow patterns. Each theory looking at the same raw data and coming out with different conclusions.
But somewhere along the line Global Warming moved from theory to TRUTH. As truth it can no longer be doubted. Scientists who suggest it fails to look at all the data are vilified or ignored. In the religion of Global Warming they are heretics and need to be cast out. The good scientist now looks for ways to buttress the TRUTH.
But this isn’t science. The real scientist has to be free to go where the data leads even if it doesn’t support the prevailing theory. And there is a large body of data that casts doubts on Global Warming. But it is being and must be ignored.
The second problem when a theory passes from theory to untouchable TRUTH is what I call “ siding”. Instead of looking for truth groups decide either it is a real truth or it isn’t. In the case of Global Warming which was really pushed by All Gore who is considered a liberal. It puts conservatives on one side and liberals on the other. Global Warming is the club they use to hit each other over the head with. If you don’t believe me go to the conservative and liberal blobs ( it’s pretty easy to tell one from the other) or turn on Glen Beck ( a conservative) there isn’t a night goes by he doesn’t slam Global Warming.
The sad thing is that this kind of fighting does nothing in the real search for the best possible theory to support the data. Absolute TRUTH corrupts the process.
The good news is that there are still some scientists who are studying the data. They get no grants. They are ignored by the press . They are seen by the liberals as tools of the conservatives but they push on.
They are ignored by the popular media which is busy proclaiming the TRUTH and making fun of those that don’t see it as truth. They have trouble getting their work published because it’s not politically correct. But they push on.
In time Global Warming may be found to be the best possible theory for the emerging data. Or like many TRUTHS it will simply fade away.
Further the steps we take because of the Global Warming theory are not bad steps. We do need cars with cleaner emissions . We do need to clean up our factories. We do need to practice conservation of resources. If a false TRUTH drives us to do that it has done a good thing.
#### News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal. For the second night in a row the dragon flew last night. This time it was snowing. It has never done that before. One wonders if it thinks it can warm the town with its fire. Then Pigeon Falls would have Dragon Warming which would be really weird.
Perhaps yesterday was just a weird day. Some patron was arguing with Nancy and called her a bitch. He found himself flying through the air , out the door, and headfirst into a snow bank. That poltergeist has one short fuse.
Petrovich hired his own carpenter to start getting the room ready in the new museum for his driblets. The carpenter worked for half an hour and quit. He said something kept tapping him on the shoulder and he’s look and there was nothing there. He is not going to work with ghosts. The Board may have to go looking for a good exorcist.
The sap is rising and people around Pigeon Falls are tapping their trees .
Lois Hagglun started early and has already made some syrup. Then she put some on the stove to boil down to syrup and fell asleep. When she woke up the house was full of maple syrup smoke. That stuff clings to everything. But after she aired it out the maple smell was better than Glade.

I didn't sleep well last night. This morning my oxygen count was the worst its been in a long time. I worked with Betty to get the eBay orders labeled and she took them to the Post Office. I sat and talked to the dog. I spent most of the afternoon in bed connected to the oxygen concentrator. Now I need a breathing treatment.
