The Law

Saying forthe Day- If the Church would spend as much time sharing the Good News as it does fighting with its various parts it would be a different world.

Once upon a time there was a little boy who , whenever his parents turned their heads ran out on to the road. His father felt this would not do because they could not watch him all the time and still he needed room to run and play. So the father built a fence all around the house. It was a very high fence and very well built. The little boy did not like the fence and kicked his father who still knew it was the right thing. But one day while the father was having a spot of tea in the front yard the little boy piled all his toys one on top of the other and went over the fence. He ran into the road and was hit by a car. He spent two weeks in the hospital with a very badly broken leg and then came home on crutches where he was miserable for another month. But the little boy still didn’t like the fence. But the Father loved the boy and kept the fence.
We as a church can debate the nature of God’s law and the purpose of God’s law but He who gave us the law loves us. Perhaps, we need to start from there.

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls– The little town in my garage where the trains still run, boys talk to rocks, and Pastor Marvel is leaving. – Last Lutheran will be full today as Pastor Marvel preaches his last sermon. There will be tears and “ I wish you weren’t going ” ’s .There will be going away cards and all the stuff that has to do with endings. It will be a sad time.
Yesterday they had the big party. The hall was full.It almost seemed as if everybody in town was there. Tommy UK , with his rock, Tommy TW with Nancy, and Tommy PK were all there.
There were songs and speeches. Letters were read.
Here is Vicki Easts song:
When you dressed like Captain Marvel
we thought that you would fly
Cause in every way your super
So we couldn’t see why.
You couldn’t leap tall buildings
But then you didn’t even try.
You just helped people
To see a God of love.
Your power wasn’t magic
It came from God’s own dove.
You will be missed!
You will be missed!
It had other verses just as bad but we will spare you those.
A few strange things happened during the party. Mrs. Morris swears that when she reached out for a cookie it flew into her hand. She is getting old. Bennie said that his glass of punch moved down the table by itself. One wonders what was in Bennie’s punch. The strangest thing though everybody saw. The punch bowl developed a fountain. The punch cascaded up into the air for a couple of minutes then quit. It must have been some odd air flow caused by the new furnace. For the most part it was as good a party as a going away party can be.
To make the day perfect the New Potatoes won last night. One poor boy on the other team got into an argument with his coach. It was near the end of the game and they were already far behind and it looked like he just threw the ball out of bounds. He claimed it was pulled out of his hands but the coach said he was looking right at him and there was nobody close enough to pull it. Some kids are so stubborn.

Today's Link- Writing Life- If you like stories with hidden lessons this is for you. PLease leave a non-hidden Dr. John in the comment. Very good night last night. Feeling much better but the lungs are still not back to normal.
Was a better day than I expected. I didn't get to church which was the olnly bad part but I did read Alastair's sermon which was good as usual. I took a nap then checked the oxygen levels. They were almost normal so I went most of the day without oxygen. That was not possible a few days ago. I played two games of canasta with Pennie and Betty and won both. Now I need a breathing treatment.

Was Tommy and his rock nearby? Did he go to the game after all? Does anyone hear the rock talk back to Tommy or is it that Tommy can hear the rock's thoughts? Can the rock hear the dragon's thoughts?

Dr. John -- that was an excellent parable and sermon. Now, if I skip over to Alistairs and read his sermon, can I consider that church for the day? :)

Loved the way you related the story of the Little Boy and his Dad to God's love. If only more people conditionally love instead of judge, "What A Wonderful World" this would be.

A Blessed Sunday is wished for you and Betty

Great post today! We need to trust God to sort out the differences and instead enjoy and share the Good News. Especially today, where many are mocking us believers. We need to stand strong and faithful on a single premise and trust in Him.

More and more I like this Dr. John and envy those who have been reading here longer. Parables are so disarming and clear--especially from a winsome and avuncular writer who has earned the trust of friends.

it is always sad to see friends leave. specially when they are not only friends but people who lead us closer to God. the town's loss is yet another's gain. so is life and it's sad.
i'm so glad the team is winning..so are the Flames, imagine that?lol

i'm so delighted that you are starting to breath better. you take as much oxygen as you need, we need those lungs perfectly well. i do wish you sleep extra and drink lots of water so that your body can fight these silly bugs. sleep well and know you and the family are very much loved!

GLAD TO HEAR THINGS ARE GOING BETTER FOR YOU ... Nothing like winning some card games to put you in a good mood, eh?

Things are getting strange in Pigeon Falls ... hope they get to the root of this soon! (It couldn't be the punch??? OR, some senior moments???)
