Who Knew-A government Program that Worked

The Pigeon Falls Lion's Club wishes to announce a story writing contest for anybody interested in writing short stories. The Story can be anywhere between one hundred and six hundred words. 'The title must be " I remember when ........"
The story should be obviously false but with a ring of possible truth. ( Figure that out)
There are no real prizes but your story will become part of the ongoing Pigeon Falls story.
More information is available HERE

The government did something that worked and I hope it was paying attention.
It had two problems.
1. Car sales were sluggish and car companies despite bail outs were hurting.
2. There were lots of gas guzzling clunkers on the road adding both to our use of foreign oil and air pollution.
If there had been business as usual they would have poured cash into the big auto companies to help them ride the storm.
They would have put a large tax on gas guzzling cars.
The problem would have gotten worse.
But this time they really attacked the problem, both problems at the bottom instead of the top.
They offered people $4500 to trade in their old gas guzzlers on new more fuel efficient cars.
And the guy on the bottom responded.
Car sales shot up and the money trickled up into the economy instead of down.
Little people were helped to get new cars. The new car cost less and it would now cost them less to drive. For the little guy it was win-win.
But it also gave a push to the economy and a shot in the arm to car companies. Win-win for the government too.
The lesson here is that the people who do the work, buy the products, and make the economy run are not the CEO’s of the big companies but thousands of little guys.
When you target to help the right people good things happen.
Let's hope that somehow they got the message.

I heard a news report about the guy who had devised the Trickle Down economic theory, used under Reagan. He now admitted that the theory was meant to help rich people. Like they need help....

Dr. J.

Thank you for your comment over on mine. You brought an instant smile to my face as I thought again of New Orleans and the joy it brought to me. We are planning a return trip again this year. The Man has accumulated 3 weeks of overtime already and has 5 weeks of holidays as well. I'm sure the company won't let him take all of it at once - but what we can take we will spend in New Orleans.

How did your daughter like it or is she back yet?

btw - I'm wondering what I can do to help the needy while I am there. I'm wondering what we all can do in some small way.

Let's talk about win win when we, the little people have to start paying back another 2 billion dollars that our government got us in debt. When our taxes sky rocket into Neverland. How much more in debt are we now? There's an award for you on my blog :)

I agree with you here Dr. J. They finally did something that helps us, even though they had to wait intil the las moment to approve the money to keep it going. But the point is that it helps the "little guy", which is rare in this day and age.

Thom. Lets rejoice it was only billions and not trillions. Be happy it helped the guy on the bottom. Be happy it is working as most of the new programs don't seem to be.

Hello Dr. John. I agree with you --one out umpteen government programs that actually had multiple benefits.

Dare I hope for more?

I slid over from Jinksy's Napple Notes. Have a good day--what is left of it.

I remember a lesson I learned many years ago. If the CEO is gone for a week, nobody misses him or her. But if the janitor is gone for a week, well....!

True, true and more true what you said!

Take care and thanks for stopping by my blog today. I will tell Cody and Bailey you visited!
