Free Speech

Saying for the Day
By swallowing evil words unsaid, no one has ever harmed his stomach. ~Winston Churchil

Free Speech is under attack from the right and the left, probably from the up and the down as well.
All kinds of people want to restrict what you say and how you say it.
Some of those who would end free speech are good people and have good reasons.
They know that words hurt. They don’t want people to be hurt.
So lets prevent people from saying hurting words.
They know that some words offend. So lets prevent people from saying offensive words.
Let’s end the nonsense of free speech.
On college campuses we can do that by shouting down anybody who says things that we don’t want to hear.
At the government level we can make laws forbidding hate speech.
My mother restricted free speech by washing my mouth out with soap when I said certain words.
Speech is dangerous.
When Obama’s former Pastor told the truth about the way Afro Americans were treated by White America our brave right leaders called it hate speech. The truth can be very hateful.
When good old Rush Limbaugh said he hopes Obama fails that was labeled by the left as hate speech.
Who decides what is or is not hate speech ?
When somebody calls George Bush that “former fascist President” is that hate speech?
It is demeaning. It is unkind.
In the end hate speech becomes that which people say that I don’t agree with.
The other is true speech.
So Rush Limbaugh and ilk are all speakers of hate but anti George Bush people just speak the truth.
Who will protect us from hate speech?
The government, of course.
Those in power will decide whose speech is not acceptable.
Goodbye free speech. Hello newspeak.

News from Pigeon Falls
The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal.
The demon began its slow movement up the street. Suddenly one lonely figure blocked its way.
There in the middle of the street with her trusty demon slayer stood Mrs. Trumble. She looked like a cowboy from an old western ready to face the villain at high noon. She walked toward the demon with determined steps. This was her moment. She would protect her town.
The demon looked at her and laughed, a horrible , frightening laugh.
She raised her gun and fired both barrels. The lead shot plowed into the demon and melted, falling to the ground.
The demon continued to laugh. Then it raised its hand and a flame shot toward Mrs. Trumble melting the barrel of her gun and knocking her down.
As she crawled back to her office the demon announced in a loud voice:
“I can not be defeated”
“ I will take what is mine”.
“ You have no power to stop me”.
“ No where on Earth is that power.”
“ When I am done I will burn your town to the ground”.

Can this be the end of Pigeon Falls?
Does It fall because the driblet has no end?
Can’t anybody stand against the demon?
Will we ever know if Tommy UK is really the undertaker’s kid?

Wrap UP
Another very good day. The oxygen was well into the normal range. The sun was shining. I got this Sunday's bulletin posted. Betty went to therapy. We put in the last remote track ( at least for now). I redid my link list. Now I need a breathing treatment.

Maybe the answer to 'words being true or not', is to take them all with a pinch of salt until you have discovered for yourself their true meaning...

I prefer to hear people's "hate" words. It's a good way to get a glimpse of what they are thinking. I am more frightened of those that keep their thoughts to themselves. They are truly dangerous.

Mrs. Trumble is brave.

I'm not entirely convinced that Free Speech is a GOOD thing... but if we give it up... what ELSE will we give up -- and where WILL the lines be drawn? If free speech goes, what happens to freedom of the press? How about freedom to choose our religion? It's all tangled up together... you can't eliminate one without affecting these and many more freedoms...

C'mon Oops! Burp baby! BURP!

At least Mrs. Trumble isn't toast. I am anxious to see how this situation is resolved. You're a tease, Dr. John!

Big Brother wants you to know that whatever is deemed hate speech is double plus ungood.

Remember, war is peace; freedom is slavery; ignorance is strength.

A very good post, Dr. John....

I have always said what I thought but never been impolite. I wrap hurting words in nice flowers and package and present it as compliments. Usually you start with : What he said was absolutely right and wonderful but .... (and after the but you say what you think) Only when I am furious it doesn't work, lol !

Sometimes the truth hurts, sometimes it doesn't. You just got to be able to see what is the truth and what isn't. God has given the free choice to do and say as we please. Someday we will have to answer to him. I always let my conscience be my guide. If that little voice (which I think is God speaking to me) tells me it is wrong I try to listen.

Blessings Dr John is wished for you and Betty.

there are as many truths as there are people and if everyone is allowed to speak their truth, some are bound to collide along the way.
and the winners' truth has alway prevailed, nothing new about that...

My preferred option is speaking the truth in love....

Not always the easy option, nor the one that finds favour with most, but the right option....

Good post Dr John, thank you.

I tend to go along with Alastar's comment. Speak the truth with love and no one gets hurt. I always ask WWJD? A word spoken in anger is like poison to the tongue.

I pray that Pigeon Falls will be safe. Who can defeat the dragon?

I am glad that you and Mrs. Betty had a good day.

Very true Dr John. Words can wound so we have to be careful what we say. It seems a lot of people don't really care about that any more.

I love the pic of Betty and her father. Thanks for sharing it.

Freedom is not free.It comes with a price and we all have to determine for ourselves what that freedom is.We have choices.Thats a constant whoever is in power.

I listen to everyones opinion and dont consider any one's any better or worse than the others.
I keep hearing on fox news that America is a socialist country now..except they say *socialist* as if its a swear word.

The day free speech dies will be a sad day.

I bear in mind this saying

"I disagree strongly with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
