Good Deed Doing

Saying for the day-No good deed goes unpunished. (Mash)

My son Peter is an active part of his church and he cares about people. So when the Pastor called and said that there was a woman who had lost her apartment and needed help moving her stuff into storage he went to help. There was a good group of people who came and the job was done quickly. Then the lady need a ride to the Motel where the Pastor had arranged a room for her. Well everybody else was either going the wrong way or had a full car so it fell to Peter to deliver her. First he called the Pastor to be sure of the reservation. That’s when he discovered that the reservation had fallen through. Now he had a lady in his car with no place to go. He suggested to her that they call the police and get some help. That’s when she told him that the police and the FBI were out to get her and make her a slave. So now he found himself with a lady with no place to go and problems.
So he called the Pastor who told him that he (the pastor) had done all he could she was now Peter’s problem. Peter suggested to her that they go to the Salvation Army for help but she said they were working with the Police and FBI to catch her.
So Pete called his Mother in-law, who worked for a different Pastor. She put him in touch with her Pastor who told Pete that his church should help him with the problem. Thus he was still stuck with a lady whose touch with reality was shaky at best. She offered to go back to the storage place and sleep in the storage bin for the night.Pete did not think this would be a good thing . After many calls he finally paid with his credit card to put her up for the night at a motel. ‘He thought that was the end of it. But during the adventure she got his cell phone number and now has called him ten times. He is lucky she doesn’t know where he lives or his home phone.
What he learned from all of this is that sometimes it is not easy to do a good deed. But he still feels it was worth doing.

@@@@News from Pigeon Falls-the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and love is in the air.– Nancy and Tommy TW announced today that they were planning a September wedding. It seems that Nancy’s parents were married in September. Nancy even has her mother’s wedding dress and plans to wear it. They were planning a very simple wedding at Last Lutheran Church. They called Pastor Marvel and asked if he could come and do the wedding but he said he was far too busy. But if they could come there he would marry them at Laughing Lutheran Church. So they decided to get married in Florida and honeymoon at Disney World. The entire event won’t cost anymore than a big wedding and reception in Pigeon Falls. A number of Nancy’s relatives were disappointed and are talking about making Disney World their vacation destination this year so they can attend the wedding.
Pastor Moe feels insulted. He believes and the Bishop with him that when a Pastor leaves people should cut their ties with him and forget him or her. He says that Pastor Marvel had no business being willing to marry the couple. He is going to have his Bishop talk to Marvel’s Bishop. Bishops, you know, are very much into rules and don’t like to have them broken. It would be a better world if everybody did what they were told.
Pastor Moe told Nancy that he felt that she was making a mistake. He also told her that he had contacted the Bishop to take action against Pastor Marvel. Nancy responded by telling Pastor Moe that she wouldn’t be back at Last Lutheran until he was gone. This will be hard for her because she has been a very faithful member . Eino sent a letter to the Bishop indicating that unless something happened soon there would be no Last Lutheran. Pastor Moe has to go.

Nancy and Tommy TW must not be worried about the Dream if they are planning to get married.

Sounds like Pastor Moe needs to go to a different synod. What does he think if people go off to Las Vegas to get married?

That is really unfortunate that they pastor sold him up the river like that. Peter sounds like a really good man. You should be proud to have such a caring man as your son.

Alas the harsh truth of reality is always close at hand.

Does one give a fistful of dollars to a beggar one knows is going to go and spend it on booze or drugs

Does one let a lady in the car who thinks the police and FBI are out to get her - unless of course the police and FBI are out to get her.

Does one use one's credit card to book a motel room for a lady with possible 'fatal attraction' tendencies - and risk not only her wrath - but also the jealousy from one's wife and the suspicions from one's pastor & church.

I guess sometimes it is better not to act (or act too hastily), if in wanting to do good one risks running into all sorts of problems

Alas, poor Mother Teresa hailed as a saint by some, and yet cursed or criticised by many for not having dished out free 'preservatives'

Alas Christ crucified for treating the sick and forgiving sins for free on the Sabbath. No wonder the established church of the day were peeved that their takings for lent were down. He'd probably still be crucified just the same today!

Your son Peter is a "gem." I thank and praise God for men like him. You and Betty should be very thankful for him.

Pastor Moe must go. Go where? To a ward: a mental ward that is. He belongs in a church office job where he can't hurt people. He is not fit to deal with us ordinary folks.

Hi lori, the tale is full of humour
the comment is also tongue in cheek

All of us can walk into, or run into situations which unepected outcomes.

I would have probably done the same

The poor lady obviously needs more than a motel room. Peter did the best that he could do...he is quite a gentleman for paying for her room. I am sorry he is having all these problems. I hope she finds the help she needs...its a sad situation.

A minister told me a long time ago that those who open their hearts and wallets to those with great need often get taken advantage of. But, he, too, kept on doing the deed.

What a great person your son is. And I have the same feeling about this Pastor Moe--
