........It was a beautiful day in Pigeon Falls today. The workers started repairing Winks, the first lumber train of this season came through, the old Timormen house is getting a new paint job, and the work on the Crippled Creek Tunnel is progressing rapidly. Yesterday we wondered how they were going to lower the trestle that was built , inadvertently, two feet too high. Well they solved the problem by elevating the track. They brought in a bulldozer and steam shovel and in the mile before the trestle they raised the track gradually until it was the same height as the trestle. I would say they were pretty smart but these are the same people who built the trestle two foot too high to begin with.
Mayor South who says she is getting tired of all the speculation as to who the celebrity will be gave out the first initial today. It is R. So our Celebrity has a first name that starts with R and a last name that starts with M. The town is really working on that now. Here are some of the names that have been suggested: Richard Marcus, Rob Marshall, Ricky Martin, Reba McEntire, and Robert Morse. I am sure that by tomorrow that list will be greatly enlarged. Eino was thinking of asking Lori Linna to ride in the lead car in the Pigeon Day parade , right behind RM. But her husband Pete said they had a previous engagement for that weekend and That Lori felt bad because she really liked the people of Pigeon Falls. This years parade is shaping up to be one of the best ever. Well I'll keep you informed of what's happening in Pigeon Falls.
...... Very hard night last night. I slept in very small amounts at a time and had trouble breathing. I was fine in the morning so it must have been the heat in the bedroom. In the morning the men came and started on installing our new bathtub. I went and worked at getting a train ready to run. Got the lumber train with three cars and an engine to go around five times without a disconnect or a derailment. Betty moved the pigeon statue to the middle of the street along with the band stand. She put Joanne's Beauty Shop in place and brought Wink's Woods in for repair, it really needs it. Then she painted one of the new houses , a two day job, while I removed the roof from the end of Wink's Woods and cut and painted a new one. In the afternoon I went to the Doctor's and got a clean bill of health . He won't see me again for three months. Then I went and had my knees X-rayed. We went to Iron River to the drug store . On the way home we tried to go around the road construction and got lost. We came out on the wrong side of Iron River. Coming home we had a mystery there was a wire basket, and some other things in the sink. Betty thought somebody had come in and gone through the cupboard, Then we realized that the workmen pounding in the bathroom had shaken them loose. Betty has now finished reading the latest Harry Potter book. Well I need a breathing treatment.
