Saying for the Day

Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason. ~Author Unknown

Picture for the Day
From the Archives ( My first garden railroad)

I got this in my e-mail and thought it was worth passing on.

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.,

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 peopl e exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ .

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

News from Pigeon Falls
The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal.
At the last moment “The Bow and Arrow Hunters Band” canceled and the street dance for tonight was on the verge of being canceled. But then they got the “ Three Old Cows and a Bull” to play in their place so it is back on. This is good since the beer is ordered and the decorations are in place.
There is nothing more enjoyable than a good community festival.
The piano continues to play every morning at 6:30 and the shoes continue to dance .Like Nancy’s poltergeist, the dragons, and the whale it may just be accepted after a time. It’s just what that piano does.
Tommy UK has gone over the piano looking for some kind of electrical thing that would make it happen. But he hasn’t found anything. If there is something it is really miniature.
Tommy TW announced that his new book should be published by the First of November , just in time for the winter book buying season. People tend to read more in the winter.
The Fly Inn dropped their Russian Monk Special and are back to serving ordinary mixed drinks. The rumor is that Petrovich sat down with the owner and threatened to build a new fancy motel and bar and undercut the Fly Inn prices if they didn’t quit making fun of his hero. The Fly Inn gave in. But that is only a rumor. It could be the owner just got tired of the conflict.

Wrap Up
It was a cold day. Our furnace was not working right and we were cold all day. I put St. Mark's Sunday bulletin on their web page. My sister called she said her house was colder but because they were saving money. We continued working in the basement all afternoon. I visited the links after that and forgot this wrap up. Now I need a breathing treatment.

I think the Fly Inn customers should rise up and demand the Driblet be served and threaten to boycott any bar that Petrovich builds. What makes Petrovich think he can get a liquor license? They could have a guy dressed up like Gregnicov standing on the corner (not unlike the White Rabbit in the pink sweater) holding a sign saying "I want my Driblet NOW!!"

People of Pigeon Falls-- stand up and demand what is yours!!! Do not let a man like Petrovich control yet another aspect of your life. He brings enough havoc to your town with his silly interpretations. This country is all about freedom! Enough! Enough of Petrovich and those controlling politicians! Stand up and be counted!!

IT ALL SEEMS SO HOPELESS ... DOESN'T IT? BUT... alternative forms of government, tho perhaps more efficient ... are not the answere, either.

That e-mail about those 545 people is great. I think ultimately what they're all about is job security -- if they don't have problems to make promises about then we won't need them, so they have to create a need for their "services."

Gooooooo Janvangogh! Janvangogh for President!

I'm wondering... which country has a perfect government? I think we should FIND it, adopt it, and kidnap their leaders! But in the meantime, I'm all up for FIRING the 545 we've got! Want me to draft their pink slips?

WOW! The problems that arise when running a festival! Who'da thunk that the BAND would back out??? I'm so glad they found a backup on such short notice! I can't WAIT to dance in the streets! And it seems to me that that ol' piano has just found the best home possible in Pigeon Falls - it fits right in!

I remember when I was in college and was taking political science (is that an oxymoron?) I actually thought about a future in politics until I realized that so many people start out with the best intentions and then become idiots. Why do we keep electing them over and over when they create junk and don't listen to those whom they represent?

Dr. John, that could apply to any country, as well. Last night was the all-candidates debate here in Canada, the same night as the Biden/Palin debate in the US. I could not bring myself to watch either of them, because in the long run what they have to say really means nothing. Nada.

Your post says it all...!

Unfortunately they would be replaced by 545 of the same if we got rid of them.

What a lovely photo and a fun thing you created. I'll bet you were a popular neighbour.

Dr. John, thanks for linking my modest blog on your's. I am honored.
This is the first time I landed here, via Jo's blog, and I am glad I did.
Here's my spin on the upcoming election. Let's band together as Americans and not reelect any politican. Perhaps the Congress and the Senate would get the message that We The People have had it with their antics.
I'm saving you to my fav's and promise...I'll read you everyday!

The garden railroad is great. What fun that would be to have.

Great quote. I'm ready to get past this election year.
