SIN

Saying for the day- Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress at all, but just terrible things. ~Russell Baker

I saw a nice lady on television the other night. She was crying. Her son had brutally murdered an entire family. She said over and over, “ We gave him everything. How could he do this.”
I read about a poor old couple that got taken in by one of those scam letters we all get. They lost their life savings. The writer of the article asked , “ How could anybody do this to such a nice old couple?
A man lies in the road in New York and people drive around him. Nobody stops to help. What’s wrong with people? What is this nation coming too?
Somewhere along the line we lost the concept of SIN. But it didn’t go away. It is still there. Just now we are surprised by it. Confused by it.
Our age believes that we live in order to be as happy and have as much pleasure as possible. We are entitled to be happy. Get in the way and we will push you aside. We can not be concerned about you it would take from our joy.
TV preachers tell us that God wants us to be rich and happy.
But this self centered belief is the very essence of sin. It will always result in people doing things that make us ask why.
Sin requires not that we have more things but that we confess to God that wee haven’t loved Him or our neighbor. That we have broken the relationship. But that would require that we live for God and others instead of just ourselves.
Much easier to wring our hands and ask why do people do these things.
It’s just that we don’t want the answer.

#### News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal . Anybody with scuba gear in Pigeon Falls was out at the Lake of the Loons the last few days looking for Tommy UK’s body. They didn’t find it or the whale. Of course, it’s a big lake and they couldn’t search it all. Tammy holds herself responsible because she didn’t stop him. She is really broken up.
They will pray for Tommy UK at Last Lutheran this morning. Pastor Joan told his parents not to give up. There is still hope.

Today's Link-It Seems to Me- God seen as an artist
The one verifiable fact in yesterdays internet list is number 9. The most recent example being a game between the Dodgers and the Angels which the Dodgers won without getting a single hit.
It was a nice day. Betty was in Escanaba recovering from her wild fiftieth class reunion. Pennie and I went to Church. The preacher did a great children's sermon but then delivered a poor adult sermon. She is just starting out so she will learn. Then Pennie and I went and got a half barrel from Steins for my new flower garden. In the afternoon I redid the St. Mark's website. This is my third revision. I should just let itbe in this form for a while. Betty came home in the afternoon. Now I need a breathing treatment.

Wherever Tommy is, I am more concerned about the folks with him, than I am for him. That's one kid with a good head on his shoulders.

Even Christians believe that God wants us to be HAPPY all the time. They just fail to realize that He wants us to be HAPPY in our relationship WITH HIM. That the only thing that will ever make us TRULY happy is loving HIM and being able to serve Him!

OY! I need to go read what happened yesterday with Tommy UK! Maybe he's in the belly of the whale -- like Jonah! OF COURSE there's HOPE! There's ALWAYS hope!!!

That was a great post. People have lost all touch with the spiritual part of theirselves in exchange for selfishness and greed. We can never fill up that "void" with material things.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comment.

So true about most folks not really wanting the real answers. Like our pastor mentioned in Sunday AM service - we must change ourselves to change the world. ec

Easier, too, to blame God. As in a loving god wouldn't allow such things to happen.

I didn't believe in original sin when I was young. But I do now. The reason: I've seen what many well-intentioned people do at times, myself included.
