Finland Day

Mieluinen jotta meidän Tiistai Suomi sivu

Welcome to our Tuesday Finland Page

First our Video of the day:

Then our Finnish phrase for the week:

. Drive quietly on the bridge.

Aja hiljaa sillalla

(Taken from a sign, this Finnish sentence is said to be one of the most pleasant-sounding of all the world's languages.)

@@@@ News from Pigeon Falls— the little town in my garage where the trains still run, dragons fly, and people are very much afraid of Saturday– Alex Mattson is still in the hospital and still very much asleep. They have given him a variety of tests and he does not seem to have had a stroke or anything like that. He seems to be in very good health but they just can’t wake him up.
People in Pigeon Falls are saying this is what happens when you die in The Dream. You don’t die in real life but you don’t wake either. This scares them even more because the Blue Plaque is coming and they could all end up like Alex.
Tommy UK suggested that since this whole thing has a fairy tale quality to it they should find a princess to come and kiss Alex. He would then wake up. Job’s Daughters has a Princess or two but none of them want to go and kiss Alex. Besides! Wouldn’t they have to marry him and live happily ever after?
All they want to talk about at Nancy’s coffee shop is The Dream. Many have now gone to Petrovich's Website and read dribblets 101 and 102. Everyone is asking where the box is. How can they burn the box if they can’t find it? Nancy wants to talk about her up coming wedding but there is no chance of that happening. Even the band members that collapsed yesterday which would ordinarily have been the topic of discussion have been replaced by talk of The Dream.

Today's Link-Fun and Games in Helsinki- The confession of A Finn with a Xerox paranoia. Leave a Dr. John in the comment.
Betty and I went to Walgreen's , the Credit Union, and Wal Mart in the morning. In ythe afternoon she worked in the other house. Our special beds are now working. Pennie came home feeling sick. Now I need a breathingh treatment.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Those dancing Finns are really groovy! Let me guess. 1975.

Tommy UK and Eino could save the day by secretly building a box -- the box of death -- and then bring it into town and tell everyone they found it. The town will destroy the box and will believe they are saved and can go to sleep. It is all about perception.

Hey, is that a younger, handsome Dr. John singing a music video? (Just Kidding) That was very interesting.

Wow, takes me back a few years......

I would like to hear finnish in conversation. I doubt that I have ever heard it spoken. So I don't really know exactly how to pronounce the words. Are the sound the same as in English.?

I happened to stumble on your site while looking for something else ... but as a Finn I just have to say that
"Welcome to our Tuesday Finland Page" is in Finnish something like: "Tervetuloa tiistaiselle suomi-sivullemme". Your translation engine is doing an awful job.

"Aja hiljaa sillalla" again means that one should drive slowly, not quietly, on the bridge. Perhaps that makes more sense. Then again "hiljaa" does mean "quietly" as well - but not in this context obviously.

Nea, Finnish is pronounced the way it's written (unlike English, say). The unfortunate thing is that the phonetical values of letters are different from English. For example "u" is always like the "o" in "move". Anyways, I happened to visit the site of a Finnish band called Nightwish just before coming here. There seems to be a lot of videos of Finnish-speaking guys, with English subtitles. But perhaps you'll be better off with something like YLE.fi or mtv3.fi. which are full of Finnish yadda-yadda talk.

And yeah, the Youtube video is hilarious ... and nea looks hot in the picture.
