Our Governments at Work

The Government funds the National Institute of Health. That means your tax money is at work there. We have so many health related problems that it has to be hard for the NIH to decided where to put the grant money they give away. But please rest assured it is being well spent.

For example a grant of $400,000 was given to the New York Psychiatric Institute to discover why gay men have risky sex in Argentina. That study is bound to have an impact on every day life in Argentina. And you thought they were wasting money.

Then there is the $2.6 million NIH grant to Wayne state University to learn the best way to train prostitutes to drink alcohol responsibly and thus reduce the women’s willingness to engage in risky sex. Now all this is being done in Guangxi province in China. Obviously essential research.

But before you start to think that we have the greatest government in the world I have to tell you about a study made by the University of Oxford in Britain . The study made over three years proved that ducks are more comfortable under a sprinkler than floating in a pond. It cost their government a measly $500,000 of tax payer money but the value of the results can not be calculated.

So if you are a gay man planning on traveling to Argentina, a Chinese prostitute, or a duck know that somebody out there loves you.

Our governments make us proud.
News from Pigeon Falls
The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal
Eino and Tommy UK watched the incoming video until about ten last night when Tommy UK had to go home. They saw nothing out of the ordinary.
This morning Tommy left for school early and stopped at Eino’s to see if anything had been reordered last night. At exactly 2:00 the end of the trench opened and a ball bounced out. Well it seemed to be a ball but a closer look showed it had eyes, ears and a mouth. It seemed to move by bouncing and moved off into the woods. Eino said “ there is no way that thing exists. Somebody is faking us out. But Tommy was not so sure. He felt that on Friday night, since he had no school the next day, at 2:00 he should be at the trench .
Since some of Eino’s friends also saw the recording the information quickly moved around town and the “ Bouncing head” became the center of gossip at Nancy’s Coffee Shop. One can imagine how that gossip went.
Petrovich thinks that he will have a meaningful driblet translated as early as tomorrow.

Wrap UP
My oxygen was a bit higher today but it is 96 degrees outside. It is going to be hot for the rest of the week. I visited all the blogs that commented yesterday plus those that commented on Friday that I hadn't been able to visit. Thom and I have taken over the stewardship of the Portrait of Words blog. The first set of pictures came from Melli and is up. We hope to get the first stories on June 30th. Take a look and join us in this fun writing. This was my 1600th blog entry. Now I need a breathing treatment.

The amount of ridiculous projects at our universities funded by the tax payer in the UK are hilarious if they weren't so worrying. The study into why toast lands butter-side down comes to mind.

Governments all over the world spend money like this. It's not just your wonderful country. Look at our former Liberal Government that funded a Pornography Movie. They did it in the name of Canadian Culture.

Well now... I have to say - in all honesty... I would rather my tax dollars go toward making sure that ducks live at a maximum comfort level than to pay $400 per for toilet seats! I'm just sayin'.....

BOUNCING Heads in Pigeon Falls now! WHAT next? (personally, I think it might have been a marble - lost by the Great Creator!)

By the way... you've got mail!

And I know a hard-working Amoeba who has to fight for every penny he gets to fund his bio-fuels research, which might actually have some kind of positive impact on both the environment and the government -- not to mention that is is one of the few bio-fuels projects that is NOT trying to use food producing crops for fuel. (If we don't have enough agricultural land to grow the world's food, how can we advocate using huge sectors or it for creating fuel resources?)

And I knew I saw a bouncing head the other night! I blamed it on jet lag!

Ah, the excellent wisdom that comes forth through government! There is an airport in a city in southwestern PA that has some big, expensive device there (I can't remember if it is something to deal with weather-forecasting or something else) but anyway, it cost the government a fortune to have it put in there even though, it can not be used, for some reason or other. (I can't recall all the details now -obviously.) But the money for it came through at the insistence and pushing from the Congressman for that district who has a reputation for being a big, big purveyor of pork. Thing is, they say in maybe 15-20 years this thing will be extremely useful at that airport, and it will serve as a draw somehow to companies to get them to consider relocation to that city too -because of all the "forward thinking" that brought this thing there to begin with. You can tell how interested I was to learn about yet another way the government plays with our hard-earned dollars, huh?

Too bad Alex is too young or me. I recently read that out tax dollars are also going to a project to determine why men don't want to use condoms. Go figure.

Now if we can only get the government (particularly the District of Columbia Metro system) to replace those unsafe commuter trains!
I had a bit of a panic yesterday for the 3 minutes it took to get in contact with my husband, who commutes via light rail.

Your examples of good government work made me smile a lot. The bad thing is that we have to have governments. The good thing is that they change. And then, sometimes things will improve.

Good day, sun shines!
There have were times of hardship when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in big initial investment.
Now, I'm happy and lucky , I started take up real income.
It gets down to select a proper partner who uses your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the profit with me.

You can get interested, if there are such firms? I'm obliged to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
