Another Good Thing Ruined Almost
Saying for the day: Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Coincidence? I think not! ~Author Unknown
Not too long ago Stacy described a mouth watering apple dessert and gave us the address for a blog with the recipe. I went to that blog, copied the recipe , and Betty made it. It was fabulous. It tasted like apple pie and apple tart and a few other good things all rolled in to one. You served it while it was still warm with a dollop of ice cream. I knew it would be one of my favorite desserts and said it should be served at all family gatherings.
But Betty and Pennie set out to ruin it. It seems it has too many calories. It has a pile of sugar, real pop, and then of course the ice cream. So there are a few calories in it.
So they redid the recipe to use pretend sugar and diet pop. Then they served itwith a spoonful of diet ready whip. Well it looked the same. It cooked nicely. It even had a fairly decent taste but it was nowhere near as good as the original. It was bland, bland, bland. It was ruined.
I did not want an imitation. I wanted the real thing. This calorie nonsense has gotten out of hand. Some desserts weren’t intended to be calorie free they were intended to indulge the senses. They are special. They are not for everyday use. For everyday use have no calorie Jell-O. This kind of dessert is for the mountaintop eating experience . It needs to be made and eaten in its original form.
Betty says I should stop whining. The ruined version is still better than most of the desserts you buy in the store. It is , of course. But it is not as good as the original. When you have tasted the original it is hard to accept this pale imitation. It is almost as bad as any of the new and improved stuff you find in the store. It never is as good as the stuff was before it was new and improved.
For the moment we have a compromise . They are going to make the ruined version but I can have it with Ice Cream.
You have to be thankful for what you get I guess.

#### News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal. Mrs. Petrovich is back and according to the usual unreliable sources she does look pregnant. She also is supposed to have that funny look that woman get when in that condition. Something about her eyes.
Well the Tommy Club put its plan into action last night. As soon as Mr. Fudd went to get something to eat they assembled in front of the Fly Inn. They started marching back and forth with their signs. While they were doing that Tommy UK and Tammy snuck in through the back door and went up to Fudd’s room. Tommy UK seems to have a card that can open any room at the Fly Inn. Once in the room they could not find a rifle or shotgun. There were some large boxes marked “Handle with Care” and some bottles of liquid. Tommy UK opened one of the bottles and he said it smelled like gasoline. He was trying to figure out how to open a box so one couldn’t tell it had been opened.
While thiswas going on Tommy PK who was supposed to call him on the cell phone if he saw Fudd coming back went to get a can of soda pop. That was, of course, when Fudd returned.
Will Tommy UK be caught in Fudd’s room? What is in the boxes ? How do you catch rabbits with gasoline? What is going on here? And of course is Tommy UK really the undertaker’s kid?

Hard breathing day. I started in the morning sorting pictures again. There are a couple of pictures I know I have but just can't find. Betty and Pennie went to Green Bay to spend the day with Lori. It was girls day out. The dog and I stayed home. I spent most of the day reading " The Magic of Reason". This is a very enjoyable book. Then I did some blog visiting. Now I need a breathing treatment.

Tommy UK has a cell phone? I would have expected the Tommy club to be using a string and tin cans for communicating.
I love your concept for the alphabet challenge!!
My G is posted here.
I agree with you Dr. John, desserts are not to messed with. For one very lovely moment, we all should indulge!

WOW! I spy Thomas the Tank in Pigeon Falls! Imagine that! Love the "G's" today!
Lots of "G" pictures ! I was already happy to find one word with "G" ! Now I see so many ! I love the train with the little houses, that's very nice ! I would like to play with it, lol !
Great post! One that I can certainly relate to. Give me the real stuff! I'll have to check out that recipe.
Dr. John, I love the way you are spotlighting your family with the Alphabet Challenge. It is like visiting your past -- which seems to be a very warm and loving place.
I also like that you are spotlighting the Challenge participants on your daily links. It is an added perk to participating.
Also -- you are not required to link my blog everyday, though I do appreciate it. What I wanted everyone to do was click on the Mr. Linky thing and leave their post url. I'm just not very articulate sometimes.
Hi Dr. John,
A very nice blog you have here.
Love the G pictures. The graduation one made me think of mine - so thanks for the memories!
Any apple pie left? Wanna share?
Hi Dr. John:
I love your alphabet challenge. I look forward to it every day.
Good post. I love that Garden Railroad. Wow!!
Geee... nice dog, Bark! Big black dogs is GOOD!
I'm with you, the good stuff or a piece of fruit, or jello with nasty chemicals instead of sugar.
Ice cream, I haven't had that in a very long time. How come I'm not getting thinner?
Desserts are meant to have calories!!! I've gained pounds during my daughter's visit!
I'm enjoying reading your family history.
Thanks for you frequent visits and comments at my place - much appreciated.
