Almost OLD

Saying for the day: There is still no cure for the common birthday. ~John Glenn

Today I am sixty nine years old.
Yesterday I was sixty eight.
I went to sleep and now I am one year closer to being old.
If I survive another year I will be seventy and I will have reached old.
When I was little old was fifteen. That’s how old my cousin who babysat us was. She was old.
When I was ten the bar of old moved to eighteen because then I would be old enough not to have to go to school. I would be old.
When I was twenty old was forty and was no longer a goal but something to stay away from. Now young was good.
When I reached forty the bar of old had moved to sixty.
When I reached fifty the bar moved again to seventy.
But there it got stuck. I don’t have the strength or the energy to move it again.
So year by year I have moved toward old.
Next year on this day I will be there.
I will be old.
Unless Betty helps me push the bar to ninety.

#### News from Pigeon Falls-The little town in my basement where the trains still run, dragons fly, and life is back to normal . The State Police want to know why Tommy UK is there and everybody else has disappeared. The officer in charge told his partner that he thought that Tommy UK was somehow involved and perhaps directly to blame. His partner pointed out that Tommy UK was only a kid.
Tommy UK was talking to the two officers when he realized that they too were starting to fade. Before the other two cars arrived they also disappeared . He was alone again. Over and over he asked himself “ Why am I still here?”
At that moment the mother dragon and her two little one’s flew over. They looked sad at seeing no people to cheer for them. Tommy UK thought he saw a tear fall from mother dragon’s eye.

It was a great day. For the third day in a row my oxygen was almost in the normal range. I worked a little on St. Mark's website but now I need an mp3 file of the sermon. Then Betty and I went grocery shopping. I got a T-bone steak for lunch. In the afternoon we went flower shopping for the garden. This evening they gave me a new dish for a banana split and Betty made one for me. I love banana splits. YThje only thing is I did not get to many of my links today but I will tomorrow. Now I need a breathing treatment.

It's all perspective, isn't it? I can remember sitting in school in the 70s and speculating on what the year 2000 was going to be like. I was going to be 36. Man, was I going to be....OLD!

Have a wonderful birthday, Dr. J and I hope you have a great year waiting to be "officially" old!

Happy birthday! Just remember what Satchel Paige said. "Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Have a great day!

No matter what the math and your bones say, you're just not the kind of person who gets old. Your heart is still young and fresh and full of joy. Happy Birthday, Dr. John! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Happy Birthday! I have no doubt that bar will move. My grandfather will be 95 this year, and has already decided he will move the bar to his 100th birthday. After that he said the bar doesn't really matter.

I am dissapointed we have gotten all the way to "U" on the pictures.

Dr. John, I happen to have it on good authority that OLD isn't until after you hit 100 or more. So knock off the old talk until you have nye unto a few more years under your belt. Happy Happy Birthday!!

Did you know I once made a banana split for Steve McQueen, and a chocolate malted for his pretty wife Ali McGraw when I worked in Malibu at Swensons, the local ice cream parlour? It was fun - he had a huge beard, and she had short hair.

"Estas son las mananitas que cantaba el Rey David, para los muchachos guapos, se las cantaba asi...Despierta mi bien despierta, mira que ya amanecio, ya los pajaritos cantan, la luna lya se metio."

You probably remember this song, it is what we in our spanish culture get woken up with. It is so sweet a song and it has so much beautiful memories for me. All i have to give you and the best i have to give is love and friendship and although they both have been yours since meeting you, i'm here to leave them for you again.

I think it is beautiful that Margaret got us all to celebrate your bday twice this year. What she did back in the first of your celebrating days was fantastic and it is super to get to do it again and on the right date now lol.

Glad you had a nice day. hope all your days are of good breathing, banana splits, much love and family and friends.

God Bless you Dr. John, you bring much love, joy, peace with your friendships, through your blog to many, many of us. Your ministry is real and true and i'm so blessed to have you in our lives.

Happy Bday to someone we all love.

Old ! what does that mean ??? I feel as old as I am in my mind and for the moment I approach rather the 30th than the 70, lol ! If I continue that way and I am 65 in a months, then I will do like my grandma who was 95 and still a young girl. It's only the shell which changes ! I even hope to make it over 100 and go into the Guiness Book of Records ! So follow me !
Your alphabetic family saga apparently continues, lol, nice to meet your uncles !

Enjoy that ice cream, birthday boy!

I heard that since 40 is the new 30...wouldn't that make almost 70 the new almost 60? I guess I am "almost 20" since I'm almost 30.

I'm a little late, but happy birthday Dr John and may there be many more.

Funnily enough when I turned 70, two years ago, I said now I am officially a little old lady, well not so little but you get the idea.

I tend to think every year over that is a bonus although secretly I hope to live to be as old as my mother which was 86.

I'm sure your loved ones hope you make ninety so hang tough.

I did no visiting yesterday, and very little on Wednesday, so I'm very late for your birthday. Sorry! Looks like you had a great banana split. My husband says icecream is a necessary part of the birthday diet - we had icecream on Wednesday, too!
Have a great year and keep moving that bar.
