Ideaology versus Reality

Today's Saying
You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones

Take the public option out of the big health bill and put it in a little bill all its own. Then it can be looked at and the costs can be figured and a debate carried on on the public option.
Having done that the Democrats and the Republicans should be able to get together and discuss the other things that can be done to help save the health system. There are apparently a large number of things that both parties agree on that could be passed that would have an impact on health care costs.
What prevents any compromise now is ideology. The Republicans ideologically can not vote for anything that extends the governments activity in health care and the democrats ideologically are committed to the government option.
Ideology is a bad legislator. It doesn’t allow for practical questions like:
Can we afford this now?
Will waiting hurt the long term progress?
Can just a public option really give the government control?
The task from moment the Democrats were elected was to get the public option. The task from the moment the Democrats were elected for the Republicans was to block it.
I really wish that our President had given us more real leadership. The great Presidents rose above ideology to meet the needs of the moment.
Obama doesn’t seem capable of doing that.
But the true believers on each ideological side cheer on their party.
Those of us in the middle have trouble watching the system lock up.

Mrs. Trumble rode her bicycle in to work today. It still hasn’t snowed and she figured she could use the exercise. As she passed the Fly Inn there sitting on the front step was Eugene. She fell off the bike.
She looked at him. He looked just like he did when they left 1890 and returned to 2009 and he was sober.
“I’m staying at the Fly Inn”, he said. “ Until I find someplace better.”
She went with him to the restaurant and treated him to breakfast. “ How did you get back?” she asked.
Eugene said he spent many good years with Anabelle but the time came when she felt he belonged back in 2009. So she and one other cast a spell that brought him back to 2009 and restored him to the age he was when he stayed in 1890. She wanted what was best for him.
Eugene said, with a tear in his eye, “ she really loved me. You know!. She really did.”
Mrs. Trumble refrained from asking why he just didn’t go now up to her cabin. He could have the best of both worlds. But she felt there was something he wasn’t telling her but she had no idea what that could be.
She told him to put a note on Nancy’s bulletin board that he was looking for some place to stay. “Somebody probably has a room to rent” she advised him.” It will cost less than the Fly Inn.”

  1. Like I said, king of the cliffhangers....

I bet when you were a little boy you went to the movies every Saturday and saw the serials with Lash LaRue and Flash Gordon and others of their type, and boy, did you get an education....

  2. The GREAT presidents didn't have neeeearly the media coverage that President Obama has. And if the media wasn't so helpful in encouraging the racists who just want him out because he's black, the poor man MIGHT stand a chance! I am SO ASHAMED of our country! SO ASHAMED! Don't get me started!

I'm really sorry Eugene had to come back... he must have a purpose in being here though.

I'm not ashamed of this country at all. What I'm ashamed of is every single politician back in DC right at this moment. It's all about getting re-elected. Not what is good for the American citizenry as a whole. I'm sick of party lines I'm sick of the constant bickering and finger pointing and not being able to get something accomplished that will benefit all Americans. It's just shameful. And then if you disagree with President Obama you are considered a racist. I just don't get it. I suppose now the media is going to make us all racist with Tiger Woods and all the hoopla going on with him now as well. Get to work all of you back in DC. Do your jobs that you were elected to do!!!

Poor Eugene. But at least he is sober :)

  4. What I'm ashamed of are U.S. citizens who know beyond a shadow of a doubt that anyone who doesn't agree with Pres. Obama's Socialist/Marxist/Fascist/Whatever-You-Want-To-Call-It political agenda is a racist.

Hear, hear! Thom and Dr. John.
Melli, I agree that the media is often unhelpful, even if only because the news that sells is controversy and strife. Getting along and working things out SHOULD be news, as it doesn't happen often ESPECIALLY in our nation's capital. *sigh*

Sometimes the things that make us happy are not the things we receive. I just trust there is a Man with a Plan behind it all.

  8. Eugene's return is an interesting twist. You always keep me guessing. Just when I think the story's going one way, you completely turn it around. I suppose that's what keeps me coming back for more. :)

  9. Oh, today's quote is the story of my life. I cannot tell you how much patience I've acquired as a high school teacher, lo these many years...

  10. I am glad that Eugene came back. I wonder if there was a door open for the witch to join him for a bit?

What goes around comes around in politics. I do believe it started back when the opposition was so mean to President Carter. Then the Republicans got theirs, and on and on. Remember how mean everyone was to poor President Bush.

Now it's the other party's turn again. When I took political science we thought there was such a thing as the loyal oppostition.

  11. I like your idea of moving forward on the things that both sides can agree on and continuing the debate one the rest. Sure, a complete, comprehensive plan would be ideal, but neither side is going to be moved from their ideological position in the near future.

  12. I'm Proud to be an American.
"one nation Under GOD, with LIBERTY and Justice for all"

Didn't think we had seen the last of Eugene.

  14. It's difficult for me to comment on your health system because most of the European countries think that the Americans have no public health system at all. You have only private once.
Nobody quite understands why Obama suddenly is not the darling of the nation anymore, because the rest of the world appreciates him very much ! and his health care ideas too.
