Today's Saying
Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing. ~Phyllis Diller

What you are about to read leans on the truth and bends it ever so little . But in the process every Friday you will catch a glimpse of me.And I save the cost of a psychiatrist.1. I am eating more because the Doctor said I need to gain weight and I feel weird. ( Stems from all those years of trying to lose weight)
2. I remember when I was 350 pounds. Now I’m at 150 pounds. ( Stems from illness not diet)
3. Going to put a different train around the tree this year. We are changing from G scale to 0 . ( Stems from a desire for a change)
4. We have our tree up. Of course it is small and artificial but we love it. ( Stems from the need to fit on the table in the room)
5. Having reached fifteen minutes on the treadmill, next week I will increase the speed and try to walk further in the same time. ( Stems from trying to get maximum benefit.)
6. My stomach feels much better. ( Stems, I think from the walking)
7. Almost ran out of juice on the scooter in Wal-Mart the other day and poor Bree would have had to push me to the car. ( Stems from forgetting to charge the night before)
8. I am angry with the USA network for killing Monk. ( Stems from my really liking the character and wanting at least the possibility he could come back.)
9. The football team from the town where I was Pastor all those years made it to the state final for the sixth year in a row. They lost again. ( I haven’yt the slightest idea why they keep losing that last game.)
10. Bought a beautiful mixed berry pie from Perkins last Friday. I have had a piece with ice cream every day since. ( Stems from everyone else being on diets so it’s all mine.)
11. Have about half of our Christmas shopping done. Now we should start wrapping but haven’t. ( Stems from pure undiluted procrastination on the wrapping.)
12. This weekend we will get the manger scene up. ( stems from a need to get the display out before Christmas)
13. Sold five items on e-Bay this week. Cleared a little over $100. ( Stems from getting rid of stuff from the basement shelves)
14. Next week I see my lung specialist and will see if the new pill did any good. I am a bit afraid. ( Stems from a life long fear of Doctors)
The weather bureau is predicting a big winter storm for the upper part of Upper Michigan. Pigeon Falls got a dusting of snow last night but nothing of consequence. It melted this morning. But Winter is coming.
Kivi & Maki is having a winter coat sale. They have a sign in the window that reads “ Get your winter coat now on sale when you need it it won’t be on sale.” They seem to be doing good business.
A big black bear ambled into town this morning acting as if it owned it. It smashed in the door at Nancy’s place but the poltergeist picked it up and deposited it in the DNR barrel cage. That was one surprised bear. Now the DNR will take it forty miles away and release it in the woods. It’s doubtful it will return after that. It would have been a much happier bear if it had come on Wednesday which is garbage day. There would have been garbage bags all along main street waiting to be picked up. A veritable feast for a bear.
Eugene has a job at the Fly Inn. He is going to be the janitor/handyman. They offered him a free room as well but he declined because he likes his room at Mrs. Pemberthy’s. He feels fairly sure that he won’t go back to drinking.

You're clearly improving so hope it all goes well for you with the doc.
Fifteen minutes on the treadmill is GREAT. Keep up the good work.
I've never had a doctor tell me I needed to gain weight. I can't even imagine it.
Take care. Sue
Hooray for the 15 minutes on the tread mill1 You're improving fast! Next thing you know you'll be running the Boston Marathon!
Wow, you are doing great on the treadmill.
Um, the final episode of Monk airs here tonight. He dies? Really? No, don't tell me.
Flash 55 - Love
Hate knowing the ending of anything before I reach it (stems from liking surprises:{
More snow for Pigeon Falls...I'd like them to have a White Christmas, at least...and please hide the bottles from Eugene...don't want him to back slide!
So glad that the walking is indeed helping you...and I'm sure all our prayers haven't come amiss, either!
Sandi
Just a shout out to let you know I'm glad you are feeling better!
15 minutes would kill my legs (stems from bad arthritis in the knees and one leg now getting shorter... and I'm not 60 yet.) You are way way ahead of me on shopping and decorating. I'm trying, but I went to Mall of America last friday, not my choice, and couldn't stand to shop, so I just did people watching. And now the roads are too slippery to get out.
I just love it ...all. Your life right now... You need to gain weight and I need to get rid of a few kilos...
Going to your 55 now. HUGS!
As someone with a child on the way, I am loving the Phyllis Diller quote..I won't forget that one anytime soon!
I totally agree on the Monk thing, it's a travesty...now where will I go to get my OCD fix?! Thank God for reruns!
Hope things go well for you at the doc, I will be praying! Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better though.
Have a blessed weekend Dr. John!
Congrats with the fifteen minutes on the Treadmill, I love mixed berry pies, you enjoy, Phyllis Diller, now she was funny.
Great Post,
Great news about the 15 minutes. Excellent my friend. Don't be scared...think positive thoughts about your new pill and that it's doing it's job along with you doing your job as well. I cannot believe you use to weigh 350 lbs. WOW.
Let's hope that Eugene doesn't start back up on drinking. I wonder about the bear staying away...when has anything ever remained normal in PF.
Have a great weekend :)
Like the Phyllis Diller quote...stems from being a mom.
You are reminding me of my aunt who's asthmatic breathing makes my own asthma kick in - no matter where she is in the building - I can hear her and my body responds. That's weird.
However - she started an exercise class - with much misgiving and she too has better breathing. Her stomach is strengthening and her lungs are better. (which helps me when I visit her as well)
That bear - terrible timing really!
I remember when the bears came into North Bay and loved garbage days. It was quite frightening to all who lived there at the time.
I just got done putting our tree up. I WISH I could get away with a little table top model! But at least it's done! I'll get the rest of the decorations up slowly over the weekend.
I don't know if that PILL did good or not - but I'm BETTING the exercise is doing TONS of good! I am just sooooooooooo proud of you! Your doctor should have done this to you a few years ago!!!
You know... Pigeon Falls is a dangerous place to be the town drunk. They keep getting reformed somehow or another! Who's gonna be the town drunk NOW?
I loved the fact that you get to eat the whole pie yourself. Without guilt, how wonderful!
Love Di
Hello Dr. John,
I have not been commenting much on your posts lately. But I did read you.
It is painstaking to write with one hand or even one finger. But, hopefully, soon the bandage on my left hand will be taken away and all will come back to normal.
Snow falling here today -not a heavy snow, just pretty light snow but it is accumulating a bit. I can abide this (stems from my love of the beauty of a snowfall, but also my dislike of snow-covered, slippery roads!)
Boy, you are making fantastic -and very rapid progress on the exercise thing, aren't you? That's great that you've increased your time that fast and that it seems to be helping too! Enjoy that pie -all to yourself, huh? I like that certain pies I love, no one else here cares for so I end up -occasionally -with one just all my own!
MMmmmmm.... berry pie from Perkins! I'm on a diet, but I'd be happy to join you in eating it anyway. :)
